Freeware means you get to use something for free but you do not get to know the 
computer code used to create the program.OpenSource means you get to use a 
program and that you get to see and use or even modify the computer code the 
programmer created.
Both can have diferent copyright rules but usually using the program or, in the 
case of Open Source modifying the code base, is free.
Sometimes there are charges involved with using these types of applications but 
OpenSource and FreeWare are suppose to be freely available for use within the 
guidlines of the particular copyright in use for each individual program.
