Dear Dr. Lukas Chvatal and Dr. David Necas,

I am interested in using the module "Indentor-Analyse" now available within the
Gwyddion SPM software. However, I could find no
documentation/description of the items found in the module panel,
either in the Gwyddion user guide or anywhere else in the Gwyddion
website. Can you send me some simple description of the terminologies
in the module panel and the module itself?

For example:
1) It is not clear what is the difference between "Indentor
volume" and "volume below". If one supposes the reference plane as the
sample surface on which the indentation is made, then the "volume below"
and "volume above"  should be same as "actual volume of the indent impression"
and  "outer pile-up volume".

2) Does the "Indentor volume" in the module
refer to the geometrical volume of the indentor at the given penetration
depth?

3) Is the reference plane same as Z=0 plane, or it is determined by some plane
fitting procedure on the planar regions of the image data? It seems applying
"fix-zero" affects the results of this analysis.

4) How does the reference plane tolerance affect the calculations?

5) What do the symbols Ad and Ap mean?

6) What is "inner pile-up"? Does it relate to the elastic recovery of the
indent faces (to a curved surface) after load removal?

Unfortunately there is no reply in the mailing list on the earlier query on the
same point:

I would be thankful for a clarification.

Warm regards,

N. Janakiraman
