Gwyddion 2.24 was released, however, the known issues listed at
http://gwyddion.net/switch-to-mingw32.php
remain unfixed in this version.
While DnD works nicely in Gtk+ 2.16, just replacing the bundled Gtk+ led
to different compatibility problems (such as icons not displaying in the
Gwyddion toolbox, i.e. also unacceptable) when I tried this.
I think it is possible to build Gwyddion for MS Windows and pack it with
the right set of DLLs in such a way that everything works.

On the other hand, I do not think attempting this is a good use of my
time and resources.
And do you feel comfortable with MS Windows packages being created by
someone who has never worked with the latest two incarnations of this
operating system (and only works with the previous because the control
software of some instruments runs on it) or whose idea of testing is
running it under Wine?
Considering this, Gwyddion works surprisingly well on MS Windows. But
it is unlikely to improve unless people who actually use it there and
have real interest in making it work better there start doing something
about it. After all, users of all other systems are capable of it.

Ccing the devel list, just in case...
