I am sorry as I do not recall who was working on this as well, finally got some time to invest time in it.
I have worked on a little script and procedure that should make it possible to take AFM data (or any data represented in a surface) scale it and transform it into an STL that can be 3D printed. Happy to walk you through to what I have done.
