Hi Gunvor At the weekend I watched The Thief of Baghdad (or Bagdad). (On UK TV.) The colour of the opening street scenes was wonderful and the costumes were fun. Oliver Messel is credited for some of the costume and the music was the first British score to win an Oscar. It would be interesting to see how it had developed if production had not been moved to the USA at the outbreak of war. Apparently you can spot some of the scenes which were shot in America because the girls’ bodices button up to the neck! I shall have to watch it again.
The acting is typical Hollywood of the period. There are no historical facts! I love bits of it but, for me, some of the adventure bits are a bit dull. But the colour, especially of the opening scene has stayed in my head and I keep thinking about it. I had heard about it but never seen it. Good luck with your search for distraction.
