Hello All,
I'm back to my 1920s projects again. Thanks for all the responses. I
found some lovely 1920s-1930s reproduction patterns on etsy and am onto the
making mock-ups stage. I am much taller and thicker and bustier than any of
the patterns that appealed to me but the patterns did go up to my size so I'm
going to assume the designers thought they would look ok on someone not a size
32 bust so mock-ups. Looking at pattern fabric recommendations I find my
twentieth century knowledge of fabrics lacking. Cotton is a fiber but crepe is
a weave? When did the artificial silks come in and what were they made of? Is
acetate an artificial silk? What about rayon challis or rayon crepe? Is there
a good way to figure out what hand the original fabric recommendations would
have possessed? I can figure crisp fabrics versus ones that drape but how much
drape? Any good links for a comparison between 1920s-1930s fabrics versus
modern? My google-fu isn't helping much right now.

                  Cassandra
