I'm not absolutely positive but the 720 page beautiful monster is the original(which I have), the two volume set is a reprint with perhaps a few minor changes. A third book, entitled Costume that I spotted at my local Borders bookstore is smaller, has just about everything in the big and 2 volume set and is good for those that don't want the big one, just some highlights.
