T-shirts and jeans. After centuries of even peasant and workman's wear being somewhat "formal" to our taste (think of barbers, printers, and butchers in the late 1800s and early 1900s with white shirts, jackets, and ties), these garments became nearly universal in the west, with all sorts of fancy versions (designer jeans, silk t-shirts with women's suits, etc.). And sweaters (jumpers, for our European friends), which seem to have been sort of regional folk garments in the past.
