I can't seem to find the pictures (one was definitely "Italian"). I have seen the second "frog" drawing on the site you provided. They were spaced approx. 1" apart (or a wee bit less). Would recommend that you go the hook & eye route if a picture can't be produce, especially if the doublet needs to be authentic in style. The "frog" length of each piece side looked to be 1 1/2" including the loop and button/ball.
