Newer-model machines were gradually "dumbed down" to produce ever simpler, cheaper, flimsier, and poorly- or repetitively-designed laces.

Considering what laces _could_ be made commercially, and what once _were_, the ones now made are just--well, they're the reason I always use vintage laces. Most new ones, even when not synthetic, are just so boring.

We've had home embroidery and home knitting machines introduced into the market. Manufacturers need something to sell to the now rather small base of home sewers and needlecrafters once these have already bought their sewing machine (and their serger, knitting machine, and embroidery machine). On the good side, these machines enable people to do a lot of interesting, creative things.

So maybe the home lace-making machine is on the horizon: Is it technically feasible?
