The fabric the globe rests on is a silk fabric with a brokade weave.
Its a very thin fabric, i think perhaps it could be a fine dupioni wich has ben woven.
I made a pair of stays with it, wich you can se here:

I still have a little more than a meter of it left, i thoaght about making a waistcoat of it.
They had this in other collours two in a fabric shop near me.
