My mother made my sister and myself matching pant suits, of a similar style. Ours were powder blue polyester, with a lace jabot at the neck. They were beautifully made, but polyester...blech!
I'm a few years behind the early 70s high school crowd (I was in preschool), but I do remember one of my biggest childhood disappointments. Mom did a lot of sewing and made me quite a number of pantsuits. She found this fabric with Siamese cats all over it, and she was going to make us matching outfits, with the tunic-style top with the cat fabric and matching brown pants. But she messed up the cut on mine--half the cats were upside down, so it never got made. I was very bummed.
