Hello. Rank amateur that I am, I need some advice about selecting fabric for
my Tudor wardrobe (1530-1560ish) from you textile experts. FashionFabrics
has silk twill on sale and I was wondering if it would be appropriate for my
period, and if so, what for?

In the near future I'm planning to make a loose gown (with the purpose of
keeping me warm at our annual February event) and a boned kirtle, or whatever I

figure out is appropriate for this period. Sometime soon I hope to make a
fitted French-style gown like this one:

(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Margot_001.jpg) and/or an
English-style court gown (like this one, but not specifically this one:

Would silk twill have been used for any of these garments? I'm not
necessarily going for super-upper class with the loose gown, by the way. I was
thinking of using some cotton velvet I already have for the loose gown; would
that
be warmer than the silk twill, or would it all depend on what I lined it with?
