I just got off the phone with Mom, who got married in Nov 1955. Her gown cost about $200. Floor length with short train, 3 tiers of lace, lace bodice & sleeves. One of the Chantilly floral patterns, but I don't think it was true Chantilly from France. Utterly gorgeous, and it took me _days_ to iron it to display at their 50th anniversary party.

Anyhow, going by that, $200 got you a real wow of a wedding dress in the midwest in the mid 50s.
