I believe I read somewhere that some of the quilted
jackets are cut from quilted petticoats.

One quilted garment which was Not, is the beautiful
sacque at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, a blue
(iirc) gown with the quilting panel running the length
of the pleats.  
It looked glazed, like the calamanco found in 
eighteenth quilts.  Or otherwise moderately shiny.

It was not in the relevant catalog (an exhibit of
costumes related to seasons), and I cannot find it in
the Met website.  :(

But it exists!
