Yes, the mutation that gives resistance to malaria becomes sickle cell
disease if both sides of your family have the mutation (I work with
scientists who have worked on sickle cell research).

A google search on 'murraine disease' came up with definitions of a highly
infectious viral diseasewith a fever attacking cattle and sometimes sheep,
so they still use the same term. "MURRAIN (A *DISEASE* OF LIVESTOCK) A
plague of *...* The *Murraine* an Egyptian distemper prevalent amongst the
cattle upon the *..."*
