A standard thesis (PhD) from the BL (most later UK theses) run about 31GPB (or $50 if you can get them to use the international price list) for microform or about double for a paperbound single vol... and then there is Cambridge... where you must get it directly from the University Library at much higher prices. The last quote that I got from them (on a 2 vol) was over 200GBP (beyond my price range). Those through BL are easy to get through BL Direct with a credit card. If in the UK, you can ILL most through BL. The ones from USA are very easy.. UMI will sell direct for about $35 (paper, unbound) or many university libraries subscribe to an electronic service and students can download them for free. If in the UK, BL users can also access those from UMI (up to 1Sept 2001).

If someone needs help navigating BL, drop me a note.

Thanks for the theses list. I do interlibrary loan and getting a thesis loan from another library is about a 10%-25% success rate at best.

Dissertation Abstracts International is the best source to actually purchase a copy, but there are many theses that simply aren't available, especially anything older than ten years. And they aren't cheap. I purchased a bound two volume thesis about 25+ years ago I badly needed for a paper and it was $30 then. No, it wasn't historic costume related, but I still have it(Like this cost me a whole $30 and I had to eat peanut butter sandwiches for lunch for a month to make up the cost of it and the rest of my interlibrary loans for the stupid paper which I did snag an A for anyway!).
