I recently added a couple of habariproject.org sites to CrazyEgg, a
service that helps show how a site is being used. You can see a
screenshot of some of the results here:
http://pastoid.com/43+

I've added some questions to that image, but I'll rephrase them here so
we can start a discussion.

The demo link is by far the most clicked thing on the hp.o page. What
can we do to make sure the demo is showing the best Habari has to offer?

People are heading for the documentation frequently. I have added
CrazyEgg to the wiki home page to see what's being used there. The
results of that so far are interesting, and might lead to a significant
but useful reorganization of the topics on that page.

Our community links are not being hit. We're at the mercy of our
visitors here, being that what we want to tell them ("The Habari
community is the major thing that makes Habari unique, you'll like it,
join us") is not what they care to find out when visiting our page.
What can we do to make that appealing to them? Is there anything?
Should we do anything?

One statistic that doesn't appear in the screenshot is the referrer
statistic. All but two searches for Habari that resulted in arriving at
the home page were for the term "habari". Nobody who searched for
Habari on their own clicked on the community link. I found that
interesting.

The Monolith link in the sidebar is getting a good number of clicks. My
guess as to why this is is because Mike switched and linked to the site,
and those folks are interested in design. They want to see what
Monolith looks like. Unfortunately, the Monolith link points to the
interface guidelines, and has no images. My thought to correct this
(and I was asking for this last night) was a set of thumbnails we could
put along the bottom of the screencast to replace the sentence about
screenshots and screencasts. I'm not sure what sort of page they would
link to yet, but they should probably have screenshots on them.

Finally, we tell people in a bold headline that "Habari is different",
and we apparently have technical reasons to say so. Miraculously,
people are interested in that, based on the clicks to that link. Right
now, the link points to a somewhat cheeky FAQ question that talks about
"eleventy billion other blog packages". Based on the traffic to this
link, we might consider a dedicated page that talks more in-depth about
those technical differences.

I hope to post the wiki heatmap soon. It really has some interesting
stuff in it, for example, people clicking the "view source" tab - the
only possible reason that I see for doing so (based on the referer info)
is to see Habari's source, which is actually quite difficult to find via
our site.

Anyhow, that's all I've got for now.

Owen
