Just a little shout out to the people who are lurking to let you know
vaguely what's going on in Habari-land and where we could actually use your
help, if you're able.

* We're slowly making progress on a real addons catalog. There are a
couple of plugins that make the whole thing go, and then we'll need a
catalog-specific theme. We'll hopefully be able to integrate all this with
HPM (Habari Package Manager) and get on-site deployment nailed for 0.10

* We're making progress on 0.10. There is a LOT in flux, as you may have
noticed if you've tried installing 0.10 at all. Don't plan on using it in
production right now, since it's all screwed up. But, here's a short list
of things in the works just for 0.10:

** Namespaces - We're adding namespaces to everything, so that we can
better integrate Habari with 3rd party libraries. This will be great for
extending Habari for use as a CMS or app framework.

** FormUI - We haven't started this yet, but we're discussing what we can
do to make FormUI have all the promise we see in it. Some ideas include
attaching a FormUI object to an existing form in HTML, using XML in the
plugin info to define forms and fields for named forms, and
simplifying/extending the collection of templates for input fields. This
section is probably the most broken in 0.10 right now, because some of the
controls themselves are lacking namespaces.

** Varnish support - I've been working on this myself, the ability to put
Habari behind an instance of the Varnish cache. The trick here is that
Habari generally creates a session - and therefore, a cookie - for any
visitor. Since every visitor has a cookie, Varnish won't cache for anyone.
What we want to do is make it possible to allow anonymous users not to
create a session/cookie until absolutely needed. This can lower the
typical Habari response time from 300ms down to 5ms in my testing, and is
pretty exciting.

* Documentation Efforts - We were discussing just today that the wiki
sucks, as always. We've gone over many times how MediaWiki is the best of
all evils, and even if it's not, finding something that works for us is
just such a pain that it never happens. I've been working on a personal
project that may eventually help solve this problem, but until that's done,
we should probably figure something out.

* Weekly Posts - We discussed today the possibility of posting a weekly
post on the habariproject.org blog that talks about things related to
Habari. Skippy has generously offered to manage this process for the first
quarter, and I hope to see some great new, regular Habari content on the
hp.o site.

There are actually at least a couple of other secret projects going on, and
if you spend enough time around IRC and pay close attention, you might see
where some of our efforts have been directed apart from the above. We've
been carefully and purposefully not logging any of it, so you really have
to be "in the room" to hear about any of it.

If you want to pitch in on any of the above, feel free to send email to
this list, or meet up with us on IRC to chat about it!
