I worked around this problem by opening charcoal/theme.php and moving
the following statement up to line 2 of the file (initially you will
find it inside the function action_init_theme):
Format::apply_with_hook_params( 'more', 'post_content_excerpt', '',
56, 1 );
Sorry this is only a hack, but it works for me. Hope it helps.
