Tom White commented on HADOOP-1033:
-----------------------------------
I have now updated the wiki with full instructions on how to use the scripts,
as well as including more detail on how they work. I've removed the old
instructions from the page, replacing them with a link to an archived copy.
(It's very hard to throw away anything on the web!) Following Doug's
suggestion, I have also linked to the scripts in subversion.
I hope this addresses your objections, Jim. My aim in doing all the EC2 work
has always been to make running Hadoop on EC2 as easy as possible for users,
who really just want to run their application. Anyway, I'll not close this
issue straightaway, so folks can have a chance to register their opinion on the
new wiki page...
(I've also made the 0.11.2 AMI public.)

> The wiki page that describes running Hadoop on Amazon EC2
> (http://wiki.apache.org/lucene-hadoop/AmazonEC2) includes a large number of
> instructions for manually building images and launching instances using EC2
> tools. We now have a set of automated scripts for doing these tasks (see
> HADOOP-884, HADOOP-952), so I propose removing the manual instructions (also,
> they are likely to become inaccurate over time, and may make the idea of
> using Hadoop on EC2 daunting to new users).
> As a part of this I will keep the parts of the documentation that explain the
> concepts, and document what the scripts do in more detail.
