Using thrift in HDFS APIs?

Hi Folks,

Wanted to (re?)kick off some thinking about using Facebook's Thrift  
in HDFS APIs.

I just got the following note from the facebook team:

Hey guys,

Thanks for coming by today.  It was a productive discussion, and we  
have
already gotten the thumbs up from our lawyers to submit Thrift as an
Apache incubator project.  If Doug could help guide us through the
process in any way we'd love to have him involved.
