About EMPTY_BLOCKS_ARRAY and EMPTY_CHILDREN_MAP, it is effectively a
programming style. However the change eases reasoning about INode, children and
blocks as there is no need to check null values anymore (then it is also a very
small optimization...). But to my mind, this makes the code much easier to
write, read and understand. I remove it if you don't like it?
