dhruba borthakur commented on HADOOP-1298:
------------------------------------------
This patch implements access checks for all components of a path when a
filename-lookup occurs. This could potentially complicate things when we go to
a more distributed namenode. If, in future, we consider a hash function to map
a filename to the location of its namenode, then permission checking along the
entire path while looking up a file cannot be implemented efficiently.
In short, i think we need some more discussion on whether HDFS will do access
checks along the entire path while looking up a file. I believe NFS does not do
access checks along the entire path (especially because it uses fileids for
lookups).

> I'm working on adding a permissions model to hadoop's DFS. The first step is
> this change, which associates user info with files. Following this I'll
> assoicate permissions info, then block methods based on that user info, then
> authorization of the user info.
> So, right now i've implemented adding user info to files. I'm looking for
> feedback before I clean this up and make it offical.
> I wasn't sure what release, i'm working off trunk.
