Billy, wouldn't it be better making REST and thrift work the same as hbase
master and regionserver taking the same 'start' parameter rather than
special-case thrift and REST in the start-daemon.sh script? HADOOP-2545, a
near-duplicate of this issue, asks that it be possible to specify alternate
Configuration for REST (and thrift) servers (I'll have a go at a patch unless
you beat me too it).
