files disappearing on dfs

We have rare instances where we see files disappearing after they have been
renamed.
Because of the rarity, it is hard to reproduce. In the latest instance, the
destination files (900 of them) existed before the renaming operation with the
same filenames and got deleted just before the new files got renamed. It is
possible, but not sure, that all instances of file-disappearing are of this
nature.
