Ruby 1.9 would indeed be less key strokes, but the thing I like about
my suggestion is that there's no difference with CSS.
Obviously in the way I suggest it wouldn't be dynamic, although
perhaps you could follow a similar idea to the == syntax e.g. :
#td[colspan="2" style="color: red" font-family='[EMAIL PROTECTED]']
