It works!! At first the recording was too quiet, so it wasn't quite plug and play. However, I have not spent several months trying to get a mic going to no avail. I used to know absolutely nothing, nada, zilch. Now I know _almost_ nothing. So I found how to adjust the mixer in gnome-sound-recorder, added the Mic boost switch to the visible options, selected it. And it now *works*. \o/ \o/ Al - Ubuntu appears to have put me on probation again. We have called an uneasy truce.
