I'd used xrandr and cvt to establish what settings the monitor needs rather than just copying them from the monitor manual, edited /root/xorg.conf.new to use them, copied the modified file to /etc/X11/xorg.conf and rebooted. The new xorg.conf uses the 'savage' server. It is listed as savagefb.ko in /lib/modules/kernel---/drivers/video/savage and X boots OK but only Gnome Classic is usable I found a suggestion to use the option "UseBios" "off" but it makes no difference that I can see. Mint LMDE also boots only into classic mode (but with a prettier? menu) on this box so it looks like the graphics isn't good enough for the full works. -- John Lewis using Debian sid -- Please post to: Hampshire@mailman.lug.org.uk Web Interface: https://mailman.lug.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/hampshire LUG URL: http://www.hantslug.org.uk --------------------------------------------------------------
