Not really -- it's to do with older systems that pretended USB mice and
keyboards were PS/2 ones. Or vice versa.
I'm not sure really, but I've often found that disabling this setting in
the BIOS fixes various things.

as my board has USB 2.0 and 3.0
sockets. I need 1.1, my scanner uses it - or at least, nothing in
the documentation says otherwise. I generally leave it plugged in
to a USB socket, but only to the mains when needed for use.
I have now acquired memtest and will try it if there is any more
trouble, but so far, there hasn't been any. Maybe some external
factor was responsible, such as noise in the mains supply.
