Yes, because its unrelated.

If you don't see 503 errors, than its not maxconn limiting your
connection rate.
Make sure you don't use conntrack/stateful iptale rules and
tune your box correctly.
You can read the thread "Very low session rate with simple
benchmark setup", there is a lot of extremely useful advice
in there to tune your box correctly.
