FM radio to fill the air across the country soon Radio listeners across the country never had it so good with about 280 new FM channels in the offing to air their choices tunes, signalling a revival of the medium that has been losing to television. But, most private FM companies that DNA spoke to pointed out that the revenue model for internet radio is yet to be firmed up.According to Phonographic Performance Ltd (PPL) CEO Vipul Pradhan, there are two types of internet radio: simulcasting terrestrial radio online and setting up standalone online radio stations. ENIL' has added new networks like Aurangabad, Nashik, Kolhapur in Maharashtra, Chattisgarh capital Raipur, Madhya Pradesh capital Bhopal, Goa capital Panaji, and the cities of Vadodara and Rajkot in Gujarat.In the earlier rounds of Phase II bidding, Radio Mirchi had bagged additional licences for Bangalore, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Lucknow, Nagpur, Kanpur, Surat, Jalandhar, Varanasi and Patna. The consequent ease and facility of downlinking/broadcast resulted in proliferation of TV channels. Transmission signals are now available from all over the globe for telecast. Hitherto, the Cable and Television Network (Regulation) Code 1995 was the only provision available to regulate downlinked TV signals in the country.
