Bulgaria's media watchdog intends to strip BBC from its broadcasting license in Sofia.
In the words of Raycho Raykov, chairman of the Council for Electronic Media (CEM), the move is prompted as the British media has stopped broadcasting in Bulgarian language - a key prerequisite for the license. He told the state radio BNR that the license will be revoked and granted to a Bulgaria media. In end-December 2005 BBC decided to close the Bulgarian section of BBC, among others, to redirect funds for the establishment of an Arab-language station.
