There are 3 AM stations in the city. From monitoring in Wellington, 1485 BSport is on air carrying network programs, 1314 RNZ National Radio is on air carrying network programs, 945 NewstalkZB is on air with obvious technical difficulties and is currently [1000 UTC] carrying the Gisborne FM feed for Classic Hits. It has also had live studio announcements from Gisborne with eye-witness reports and is not on the normal NewstalkZB feed. It sounds to be operating on full power [2kW] at times, and less [maybe 500w] at other times. No casualties are reported, major building collapses in the CBD have occured [at least 3], and roading damage is widespread. Water is secure, power is being returned, phone service was overloaded and now returning to normal. Widespread damage to buildings across the urban area [shelves collapsing, windows broken etc]. No tsunami has resulted from the earthquake, which was felt as far away as Dunedin at the southern end of the South Island. No major aftershocks reported as of 1010 UTC. When I get heavy rain, I hear an noise like rubbing two pieces of metal together within the house. a scratching/scraping noise. If I take a portable outside, it seems to go away the farther I get from the house. I kicked the circuit breakers off and it does not do anything. It doesn't do it everytime it rains, but most of the time a heavy shower hits. True I have a metal roof, but the wind does seem to cause the noise. But rain hitting something does. It is really noticeable on a portable, and in the back of the house closer to my antennas, but not on the R8 near the front of the house as much. Of course the R8 is well grounded. The electric frence was arcing the other day, and I fixed that. I even shook the fence during the heavy rain and it did nothing. Any suggestions? Thanks. 73, Patrick Patrick Martin KAVT Reception Manager ------------------------------ Message: 3 Date: Thu, 20 Dec 2007 19:31:31 +0200 From: "Jari Savolainen" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: [HCDX] Chad 4905 To: "CDX" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, "DXLD" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, "DXP" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, "HCDX" <hard-core-dx@hard-core-dx.com> Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed; charset="iso-8859-1"; reply-type=original On 20 Dec 2007 noted Chad, RNT N'Djamena on 4905 at 1627. I checked some things out, the metal downspouts of the gutter and I found one loose and replaced the screws. Plus where the gas lines go under the house, I wiggle those and I hear a scratching noise against the metal. I smell no gas though, but they are hitting against something, so will have the gas company check them and then maybe ground the pipes going under the house, but they are already grounded coming out of the ground. But I poured a glass of water on the pipes and no noise from that. It is lightly raining now and no noise noted, so I am still in the dark.I did check all of my antennas too. Nthing noted there. But anything is possible. 73, Patrick Patrick Martin KAVT Reception Manager ------------------------------ Message: 5 Date: Thu, 20 Dec 2007 19:42:17 +0100 From: "Wolfgang Bueschel" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: [HCDX] [dxld] Intl R Serbia To: "HCDX" <hard-core-dx@hard-core-dx.com>, "DXLD" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed; charset="iso-8859-1"; reply-type=original Thanks Dragan, well done, fine research, it turns out near the reality on our ears here in Western Europe ! If it is a mechanical noise you hear as opposed to radio reception, then I would say a tower tripod is broken with the pieces rubbing one another. Seeing N'djamena back on 4905 kHz (wasn't it 4904.5 kHz?) is a gleam of hope! At about 1901 UTC there was an interruption in the signal of about a minute or so... Now they are back on 4905 kHz in French! Great!!! 73 Kai Willner Germany Lowe HF-150 Wellbrook ALA-1530 active loop antenna (indoors) On Dec 20, 2007 5:31 PM, Jari Savolainen <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > On 20 Dec 2007 noted Chad, RNT N'Djamena on > 4905 at 1627. RA, 6020, still has co-channel QRM from that motor-boating defective transmitter, believed to be Vietnam, Dec 20 at 1340 check (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** CUBA. Bandscan of 13 MHz, Dec 19 at 1430 found Habana`s three frequencies from two transmitters all missing --- no RHC 13760, no CRI English 13740, no leapfrog on 13720; however, 13680 RHC was on as usual. 1442 recheck, all were back on (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** MEXICO. Dec 20 check at 1340 found XEXQ still missing from 6045 as it has been for several days; XEYU not detectable either on 9599+, but at 1911 it was poorly audible with classical music (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A. Surprised to find big collision between two US SW stations on 7465, Dec 20 at 0642; they were at roughly equal very strong level, taking turns dominating, roughly 10 Hz apart in a big SAH. Both with preachers, Christians vs Christians! One changed programs at 0644 from Midnight Cry to Pastor Shockley (sp?), from the Key West Church of God; the other did not. The other I couldn`t help but recognize as Pastor Pete Peters. Oh, oh, he`s supposed to be on 5890 via WWCR. Checked that frequency: vacant. So WWCR had stayed on 7465 long past the scheduled switch to 5890 at 0400, and WHRA was the other one on 7465, scheduled 0500-0700 per WHR site, and then off the air, but registered available until 0900. At 0658 I sure thought it was a WHRI ID instead, then off without the usual `next frequency` announcement, leaving WWCR in the clear. Sometime between then and the next time I checked, 1339, WWCR had switched to 5890 with usual Power Hour. Adam Lock was on the phone until hourtop in his post-WWCR job promoting Berkey water softeners (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** VENEZUELA [non]. 15290, RNV via Cuba, Dec 18 at 1916 was just open carrier along with a lite squeal. 1918 came on the audio, closing program ``La Mujer Venezolana``, 1919 into perpetually years-out-of-date transmission schedule always starting with San Francisco 11 am on 13740, i.e. this very transmission which has not really been on 13740 since 2004 or 2005 at latest (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** ZAMBIA. CVC news in English, 1900 Dec 18 on 13590, 1905 into DJ; no signals from Europe were making it at this time on this band, further evidence that the site is really Zambia (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 1387, DX LISTENING DIGEST) UNIDENTIFIED. Heavy grinding and bubbling jamming continues on 15710, heard as late as 1913 Dec 18, and also at 1443 Dec 19. I can never hear any sign of the station being jammed. R. Mart? can normally be detected at times on its jammed frequencies. Since the hours are long, my theory is: a new daytime frequency for R. Rep?blica`s low-power transmission from somewhere in Latin America which we had been hearing for some weeks on 5954.1. Is that still there, anytime between 22 and 04, also jammed? Either that or the DentroCuban Jamming Command has found a new clandestine to block (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 1387, DX LISTENING DIGEST) UNIDENTIFIED. 15710, heavy Cuban-style jamming still going Dec 20 at 1906 check. Target still totally blocked here if there is really anything under it (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ### ____________________________________________________________________________________ Looking for last minute shopping deals?
