 WORLD OF RADIO 1400 SUMMARY

*IBB plans to use Bonaire relay for first time in A-08 for some
broadcasts to Africa, replacing Morocco [unconfirmed; seems iffy]
*VOA expanded Swahili to Kenya, including new mid-day broadcast
*Major fire at Johnny Lightning`s building prevents him from producing
WBCQ Sunday night show; see http://johnlightning.com
*Special MW DX test from WHBC, 1480, Canton OH, Saturday March 29 at
 0700-0800 UT; see http://www.dxtests.info
*Ideas on CBC Radio One has long-running Wednesday night series How to
Think about Science; unlike most Ideas series, available by podcast
 or ondemand: http://www.cbc.ca/ideas/features/science/index.html
*Canadia 2056 on CBC Radio One begins new second season this week, UT
Thu 0205, Fri 1432, each +1/2/3/4 hours on timezone-delayed webcasts.
 It`s a satire on Canadian/US relations
*Sounds Like Canada, weekday mornings on CBC Radio One, ending after
summer, with Shelagh Rogers leaving May 30
*Radio Verdad, 4052.5, Guatemala, sent QSL, pennant, sticker, on
display at http://www.worldofradio.com/QSL.html plus other items
detailed in DX Listening Digest 8-034, via http://worldofradio.org
*Radio Verdad looking for a new 1 kW SW transmitter, but major
manufacturers start at 50 kW; should try RIZ Zagreb,
http://www.riz.hr or ask CFRB; convert a MW unit, or soup up a ham
 transmitter
*Clipperton DXpedition ended March 15 after trouble with hot weather
 and storms
*Swan Island DXpedition underway until March 23, HQ8R; see
 http://www.hondurasdx.com and heard e.g. on 14245 at 1708
*Open carrier on 3340 late at night, apparently from HRMI Honduras, at
 0446, 0530
*ELCOR transmitter test, Costa Rica, continues to be reported on
5954.1v, music only at *2227-2327*; goes off just in time for
Democratic V. of Burma, via Germany from 2330 on 5955v
*REE Costa Rica relay has been off frequency for a month, on 5964; now
another frequency has shifted, from 9765 to 9764, both mornings and
 evenings (Still unshifted: 3350, 9675, 15170)
*Cuba continues to occupy 530 kHz, but no sign of airborne R. Mart?
 for a long time
*DentroCuban Jamming Command against WRMI, 9955, also puts `geiger-
counter` spurs above and below 9955; should not be jamming at all, UT
Monday at 0530 during Italian DX program, Studio DX
*Cuba went on DST of UT -4 one week after the USA, on March 16; no
sign of midday R. Rebelde relay when sought at 1600, 1630, 1700,
 1730, 1800 on 11655, 13750, 15370, 15570, 17555, 17735 where
 previously heard
*VOA moved its three Creole broadcasts one UT hour earlier March 9
when Washington went on DST, but not Port-au-Prince where listeners
must be confused; for VOA`s convenience only?
*The media magazine you monitor with your mind, World of Radio 1400, P
O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 USA, or woradio at yahoo.com
*Two USB+carriers stations near 5010 can be confusing. Madagascar
sometimes runs all-night, on 5009.98, while R. Cristal
Internacional/R. Pueblo, Dominican Republic sometimes activates, but
cuts off at 0000, slightly lower frequency around 5009.78; the latter
heard Friday and Monday but not Saturday and Sunday
*Religious signal on 6024.95 believed to be R. Amanecer, Dominican
 Republic, reactivated
*Erratic R. Amazonas, Venezuela, on 4942.5 until 0604* without
national anthem, totally distorted. Also at 1230 on 4940
*CODAR ruins 60 meter reception in Florida of Peruvians after 1100,
such as R. Tarma 4775, La Voz de la Selva, 4824.4
*RAE, Argentina has started webcasting via
 http://www.radionacional.gov.ar/rae/rae.asp but we can`t get a
connexion to stick; should include English hours weekdays at 1800,
 0200
*Algeria`s Qur`an service via France heard during the 0600 UT hour on
 7295
*Burkina Faso missing lately from 5030, but heard at 1311 on 7230
*Press from Nigeria says FRCN is trying to resuscitate Kaduna SW
transmitter; but it`s still heard on 4770 with news in English at
 0600 after late timesignal
*SW Radio Africa testing new 12035 at 1800-1900, to replace 7125 at
 1700-1900 from March 30
*R. Hargeysa, Somaliland to get new SW transmitter, claims frequency
is 10120; means 7120? No, was last heard on 7530
*RT? Ireland closing down MW 567 kHz March 24 at 1330; still on LW 252
*BBCWS cancelling Caribbean service in English March 23, which we
could hear in North America on 5875, 5975, 9525, 9750; and may be
cancelling what`s left of Spanish at 1100 on 6095. Also reducing
English hours to East and Southeast Asia, to prime evening time only,
 without specifics
*From March 30, Radio Netherlands cancelling morning English hour to
North America at 1200/1100; as well as Saturday and Sunday afternoons
1900-2100; we can still hear 17810 for Africa daily at 2000-2100
*Israel changes to summer time March 28 (not winter as I misspoke),
making all SW broadcasts one UT hour earlier, before they are
 cancelled March 30
*Galei Zahal should continue from Israel on SW; on March 17 not only
6973, but also on 5000-USB from 1700 past 2200, unexplained intrusion
 into timesignal band
*Iran experimenting with DRM on 9475-9480-9485 at 0630 and 1130, but
 awful audio quality
*VOA and Radio Free Asia added more Tibetan hours March 17; Chinese
added their own Tibetan service as a jamming source along with CNR-1
 and Firedrake
