Australia, 4910.00, ABC, 0839-0841, Tuned in while news was being presented.
"ABC News ..." announced by a female. This was followed
with more news. Signal dropped off the air at 0841 exactly. I guess they
had forgotten to turn off the transmitter earlier when they're scheduled to
cease transmission at 0830? Signal was good while active. (Chuck Bolland,
April 14, 2009)

Russia, 5940.00, Radio Rossii, Magadan, 0848-0905, Noted a male in
commentary
type talk in the Russian language. Lots of splatter here created by WWCR's
gibberish on 5935 KHz. At 0854, a female joins in briefly with a couple of
comments. At 0857 she continues until the hour. Just before the hour,
a canned ID by a male in Russian. I didn't catch it exactly, but it sound
like
"... Radio "Ya-key"..." On the hour time ticks followed by news and
more ID's like the above. Signal was fair. I looked for some possible
word in the WRTH that might correspond to the above sound, but did not
recognize any. (Chuck Bolland, April 14, 2009)

Peru, 4790.00, Radio Vision, 0920-0938, Sine on time for today. Noted a
canned ID as "...Radio Vision... trenta Kilohertz ... Peru." by a male which
included Huaynos music then the stations indicative data such as frequency
and schedule. At 0922, regular music is presented. Signal was fair to
good.
Don't know where the "trenta" came from in the above ID?
 (Chuck Bolland, April 14, 2009)

Bolivia, 6134.79, Radio Santa Cruz, 0948-1000, At tune in, notice a female
in
Spanish language conversing with a male. Santa Cruz's signal is very weak
at
this time. There's definitely a propagation problem lately between Santa
Cruz and
my receiver? I haven't been able to really receive a good signal from them
in
more than a month. This station began to fade to nil during the period, then
return just for a few moments. (Chuck Bolland, April 14, 2009)

Bolivia, 6155.27, Radio Fides, 0955-1000, Noted a fair signal here with a
male in steady Spanish language comments. He mentions "Santa Cruz" a
couple of times during his comments. In my opinion, this station was the
weaker station on the band previously, but today they are better than
the others from Bolivia. This guy must have a "Deadline to meet", because
his talking at a mile a minute. At 0958 canned ADs noted. Signal
was poor. (Chuck Bolland, April 14, 2009)

Netherlands Antilles (relay), 6195.00, Radio Japan, 1000-1005, Blocking
this most
important freq, noted a program of Spanish language news and commentary.
Signal
was strong and clear. (Chuck Bolland, April 14, 2009)

Peru, 4824.50, La Voz de La Selva, 1020-1035, Nice signal here with Huaynos
and
Popular music presented. Between tunes, a male comments in Spanish. Also,
an
canned AD and ID between tunes. At 1026 a series of canned promos and ADs.
Signal was fair to good. (Chuck Bolland, April 14, 2009)

Indonesia, 4845.25, RRI Ambon, (pres) 1032-1045, In here with popular
Indonesian music. No break in the music as the signal begins to Fade at
1039. (Chuck Bolland, Arpil 14, 2009)

Peru, 5039.15, Radio Libertad, 1043-1050 Noted a male in
Spanish language comments before the music. Generally,
Huaynos music was presented. Noted the male and female
cheering on the musicans who are playing the music ... "vamos", "Arriva"
with words like those. At 1048 canned comments, which sounded
like promo. More music and comments. From all the yelling and
cheering, it seems like this station is having a party this morning.
At 1050 a "real" live person comments. Signal is poor by now.
(Chuck Bolland, April 14, 2009)

China, 5030.00, China National Radio One, (pres) 1050-1100,
Noted a male and female in Chinese language comments which sounded
like news. Each person comments briefly, then the other person comments
about the same length of time. At 1058, music and promo together.
Signal was fair to poor with lots of clutter underneath China's signal.
Time ticks on the hour followed with ID. Sorry don't understand
Chinese enough to copy details. (Chuck Bolland, April 14, 2009)

Manuel M?ndez
Lugo, Espa?a

ANTARTIDA, 15476, LRA 36, Radio Nacional Arc?ngel San Gabriel. Base Esperanza

Hace apenas tres d?as envi? un mail a LRA 36, Radio Nacional Arc?ngel San

Fiji Military Shuts Down Foreign FM Relays
__________________________________________

The current media crisis in Fiji deepened earlier today [April 15]
when Radio Fiji technicians accompanied by armed soldiers shut down
the two local FM relay transmitters of Radio Australia.

The local relays [Nadi on the western side of Viti Levu island and
Suva on the eastern side] both broadcast on 92.6 FM and carried 24/7
broadcasts from Radio Australia in Melbourne.

The main international airport is located at Nadi, and the relay also
served tourists in the popular resort areas nearby. Suva is the
capital.

The closure of the Radio Australia FM relays currently leaves just
the BBC and Radio France International FM relays as independent news
sources for residents and visitors alike apart from shortwave
broadcasts.

Military personnel are stationed in newsrooms of local radio
stations, many of which are operated by the state broadcaster Radio
Fiji. News bulletins are censored under an emergency decree issued
over Easter weekend, and no negative items about the new interim
government or its activities are permitted.

Radio Australia and Radio New Zealand International continue to serve
Fiji with shortwave broadcasts. It's not yet clear if popular RNZI
news programs such as 'Dateline Pacific' will still be carried on
local AM and FM stations without local censorship in Fiji.

According to the Radio Heritage Foundation, Radio Fiji operates six
separate radio channels, the main private competitor another five
channels, and a variety of other local FM stations operate mainly
from studios in Suva.

The closure of the Radio Australia local FM relays in Fiji is a set
back for the broadcaster, which has been expanding its Asian and
Pacific FM network. It recently claimed high levels of local
listenership to these relays.

According to RNZI, internet cafe owners in Fiji are also reported to
be closed down as their operations are investigated by government
officials. A number of blog sites carrying negative comments about
the interim government have received widespread publicity in recent
days.

Currently, people in Fiji can still listen to foreign news broadcasts
via shortwave or from some of the more powerful local AM stations in
Australia and New Zealand that can be heard at night. Relays of Radio
Australia and RNZI news from Radio Tonga [1017 AM] and 2AP Samoa [540
AM] may also be heard at night in some parts of Fiji.

The Indian language Radio Tarana station in Auckland [NZ]
broadcasting in Hindi at 1386 AM is often well received at night
throughout Fiji.

Internet streaming of Radio Australia broadcasts can be received in
Fiji as well, so long as the local ISP operations remain open. The
Fiji military is reported to be considering shutting down
non-government internet access.

Fiji TV has already had to curtail news bulletins after initially
defying the military, and the situation regarding relays of satellite
delivered TV news channels channels via local rebroadcasters remains
unclear. Individuals with satellite dishes are probably still able to
use them, at least for now.

The situation regarding amateur radio operations is also unclear.
There are no reports of clandestine radio broadcasts attempting to
circumvent the military crackdown on media news coverage.

This report draws on coverage from Radio Australia, RNZI and
