Hi,
according to the HFCC file from 3 October, another transmission marked
as "RTE BAB" (that would be RTE Dublin) might be coming up today. The
transmission is registered from 28 September to 5 October 2013 but
labelled as Saturday only, and that's today. We'll see if it's actually
on. Sorry for the short notice, I just saw it.

5925 Meyerton 1530-1600 (7 deg) and 1730-1800 (7 deg)
9590 Meyerton 1530-1800 (5 deg)
17685 Woofferton 1530-1800 (158 deg)

** ARGENTINA. 11706 & 11716 approx., Oct 5 at 0058, some weak noise patches
imply matching spurs from the 11711v RAE transmitter whose signal is only fair
(Glenn Hauser, oK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CHAD. 6165-, Oct 5 at 0050 weak talk vs storm noise level, still there at
0102 as RHC hasn`t cut on yet, so RNT is again all-night. I am again on a porch
monitoring session with the DX-398 as usual around this hour, with lightning
flashes as a big storm is about to pass thru Enid (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA [and non]. 6165, Oct 5 at 0206, RHC is in Spanish instead of English;
also rippling SAH from understation, presumably Chad which was still audible
past 0100 before RHC came on.

Checking other RHC frequencies: 6000 only is in English; 6100, 6060, 5040 in
Spanish, but 6100 has a totally different lo-fi sound, different program feed
and/or transmitter site. 0223 recheck, 6165 still in wrong language Spanish; by
0252, 6165 is finally in English // 6000 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** EAST TURKISTAN. 9590, Oct 5 at 0055 a bit of ``Andean`` music but sure can`t
be from there: it`s filler at the end of the two-hour Spanish broadcast of CRI
via Kashgar (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** EGYPT. 9965.0, Oct 5 at 0221, R. Cairo is back on frequency after a few
nights on 9967; it`s good they are paying attention, except for fixing the
modulation, still JBM in Arabic (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** GREECE [and non]. 9420, Oct 5 at 0522, no signal from Avlis, tho a trihour
before I had noticed it on 7475. Next-door Albania with CRI Arabic is audible
on 9515, 9590. One of these days, Grecian SW frequencies will go off and never
come back, but for now operation is unpredictable, and we`re fortunate that the
fired staff have kept them, and the programming, going at all for so many
months (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** INDIA. 11985, Oct 5 at 0057, poor signal in talk; 11740 sounds the same but
very poor, implying that AIR Sinhala service is axually in // on these two
tonight (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** INDONESIA. 3325, Oct 5 at 1226, I had missed the 1200v* closings for most of
the PNGs on 90m, but still a signal here, the OSOB, from RRI Palangkaraya,
Indonesian talk, then surges during some music; also check 4750 but little if
any signal there. At 1235, 4750 RRI Makassar is doing better with similar music
but not //, and 3325 back to talk; still audible at 1250, fading into the noise
by 1256 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 71.75 MHz, Oct 5 after tuning thru all the TV channels in analog and
in DTV (output channel 4 from the Zenith box), I turn it off but leave the TV
on channel 4 analog, to be jarred by a meteor burst of Spanish audio circa
1330, and some more for about a second each at 1406, 1425, 1441, 1445, and a
longer one at 1521 UT. They really stand out, breaking the Broksonic`s muting
on an `empty` channel before it times out and turns itself off (and I turn it
back on). I`m running the other Zenith TV set too, which doesn`t always pass
the audio at exactly the same time: no muting, but more dependent on some video
carrier being present.

Following yesterday`s terrific catch, if I do say so myself, of XET-TV channel
6 in Monterrey NL via a tropo duct around 1500 UT, I have left the antenna
aimed that way, altho the chances of that recurring are minuscule, as weather
patterns move on.

Now however, a likely source of this analog Spanish via meteor scatter on
channel 4 is another Regiomontanan, 100 kW (visual) XHWX in Monterrey, as ~750
miles is an ideal distance for MS if not for lowband tropo; however, there is
one other full-power in the area, XELN in Torre?n, Coahuila. These could be
from either or both.

See Bill Hepburn`s channel 4 map:
http://www.dxinfocentre.com/TV4.pdf
W9WI.com now has a Google-maps display of stations on each channel:
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=http://www.w9wi.com/web/tv-channels-kml/4.kml

Were these six bursts random meteors? No more caught past 1525 UT. Meteor
shower schedules at Earth & Sky list the Draconids but not peaking until Oct
7-8, so maybe precursors to that; and the visually-limited astronomers are
downplaying the greater Orionids due to moonlight, only on October 21.

Here`s more about both, again solely from the visual standpoint, as apparently
they don`t know about MS DX on TV and radio:
http://woodbridge-va.patch.com/groups/around-town/p/2103-draconid-and-orionid-meteor-shower-peak-dates-the-warmup-act-arrives-woodbridge-va
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** PERU [and non]. 5980, Oct 5 at 0047, heavy DentroCuban pulse jamming again
tonight trying to ruin reception of R. Chaski; harder to detect a carrier
underneath, and/or does the jamming also have any carrier? 0105 standing by for
cutoff: On BFO it sounds like some carrier is cutting off and on, but that`s
caused by the pulsing. This stops at 0106:01, which correlates with the R.
Chaski pattern, 5 seconds later than last night, and thus surpassing the 0106
reset barrier(?). The storm is about to hit so I rush back inside before it
rain, and monitor another hour on the FRG-7 with indoor wire (Glenn Hauser, OK,
DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SLOVAKIA [non]. 9955, Oct 5 at 0055, some very poor level music vs storm
noise more than jamming, presumed R. Slovakia International relay via WRMI,
English as scheduled UT Tue-Sat at 0030 (also daily at 1230-1259). In case you
haven`t heard, RSI may be getting some funding back and could resume its own SW
from Jan 1, 2014; they have registered a full schedule like the old one for
B-13 just in case. But this is quite uncertain and another possibility is
persuading WRMI to reactivate its NW antenna to serve North America, perhaps
more likely if they don`t get Rimavsk? Sobota itself back in business (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 7305, Oct 5 at 1205, very strong signal in Spanish; what`s this?
Greenville-B for sure, but supposed to go off at 1200 after Vatican relay
violating separation of church and state. Can it be VOA Spanish service back on
SW, by mistake? It`s a very informal morning show with two or three announcers
chatting rapidly; 1210-1219 a medley of happy-birthday tunes in Spanish,
English, Japanese, Korean(?) goes on and on; then more talk with no IDs but I
think I heard ``La Voa`` mentioned in passing, on this ``programa de los
s?bados``.

Then I check the R. Mart? frequencies: only jamming on 7405, but it is on 9805
over jamming and // 7305! 1223 on to an `Efem?rides` segment = today in
history; 1224, 7305 suddenly cuts off as someone realizes the mistake; and a
few sex later, 7405 cuts on, then stops modulating while carrier remains on,
and 9805 continues normally. At 1245, 7405 with weather report by a fuera-Cuban
meteorologist which the dentro-Cubans still jam even when there`s a hurricane
about (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 7490, UT Sat Oct 5 at 0103, WBCQ is already back to Brother Scare, so
`Allan Weiner Worldwide` must have run only one hour this week; other
frequencies are also in non // programming, 9330; and 5110-CUSB with scheduled
`Heart & Soul Radio` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1689 monitoring: 5110-CUSB, UT Sat Oct 5, Area 51 via
WBCQ starts playing WOR at 0201:40, but with crosstalk from something else;
restart in the clear at 0202:33. Next: Sat 2330v on WTWW-2 9930; UT Sun 0401 on
WTWW-1 5830 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 5085, Oct 5 at 0204, WTWW-2 is dead air instead of Brother Scare,
still same at 0251 with some hum; next check 0519, BS is back on with his own
greater hum.

Next morning, checking whether WTWW frequency switches will again be around
1230 instead of 1300? No: at 1232 still on 5085 and 5830; 5085 still on at
1301, but cut to 9930 at *1302 (overcoming Palau), while 9479 cut on at *1301
having quit 5830. However, WTWW-3 still hasn`t come up on 12105 by 1316 or 1344
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 7506.4, Oct 5 at 0219, WRNO is back (for first night?), with usual
gospel huxter, but undermodulated; weaker signal and modulation than 7490 WBCQ
BS (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

CUBA 4765 R. Progreso 0046 noted w/LA Pops. Again on return at 0108. 0125
canned "RP" ID, then into nx. 0127 reporter w/R. Progreso ID ending her report.
0129 nx end and promo, then 0129:45 ID and TC, and another canned. Audio a bit
distorted. Decent strength from this new 50kw xmtr. Just about as strong as
Rebelde and nowhere near as strong as RHC. (3 Oct.)

No sign of 4755.5 The Cross today at 0944, or Tarma at 1014. (3 Oct.)

CLANDESTINE 4557 V.O. the People 1058 choral song. Deadair break at the
end of the song, 1100 pres. ID anmnt by M in KR. Jamming slight. Was definitely
better on the Wellbrook than on the Delta Loop before 1100, but just the
opposite after. (3 Oct.)

ITALY 9510 IRRS 0838 tlk feature w/M and W, then "Dog and Butterfly" by
Heart. 0845 addr for Nexus in Milan Italy by M; then into nx abt the ACA and
government shutdown and other world nx stories from FSN. More mx at 0850. 0900
M w/ID and QSL info, and off at 0900:37. Very weak and very fady. Wasn't really
getting any better. (5 Oct.)

CANADA 6160.064 CKZU Found on this off-freq at 0932 abt equal to 6159.967
CKZN. CKZN came way up on top a few min. later. Both abt equal again at 0941.
Looked like there was another signal on 6159.972. (5 Oct.)

CLANDESTINE 6348 Echo of Hope 0957 end of pleasant Pop song, instru. Pop
mx and M voice-over anmnt, a few words by W sandwiched by choral singing, then
0959 fanfare and M anncr tlk, and the jamming returned at 0959:51. 6518 and
6600 V.O. the People were unjammed too, but then jammed starting abt the same
time as 6348. At 1101 found this was in the clear again. Checked the V.O. the
People and MND and those freqs were clear also. Alternating M and W on this
freq until the jamming started again at 1106:14. Interestingly enough, 6518 and
6600 were the first where jamming returned at 1104:29, followed by 6348 and
6480 at 1106:14. Don't know about 6003, 4557, 3912, or 3480. (5 Oct.)

UNID. 4709_99 UNID. A couple canned anmnts in SP (record 1002:45, 1003:30)
then back to mx. Audible at times over the next 20 min. and a fair peak at 1017
but during mx of course. Ranchera mx again noted at 1039. Had conditions been
good this morning (it was poor overall), the anmnts at 1002-1003 might have
been quite readable. (5 Oct.)

Only PNGs noted this morning, besides Wantok, were 3260 and 3325. The others
weren't on. (5 Oct.)

SOUTH KOREA 6480 MND R. Signal on the air at 1103:12, then pgming began
abt a min. later w/Pop-like ballad by W vcl. Jamming abruptly started then at
1106:14. (5 Oct.)

MYANMAR 9730 Myanmar R. 1125 found here w/Asian Pop vcl by W //7200.09.
1129 W anncr, short instru., then W again. Definitely was NOT // at 1133 though
w/W in pres. nx and soundbites while 7200.09 was playing an upbeat Pop song.
This freq went off then at 1133:35. (5 Oct.)

CLANDESTINE 17870 R. Inyabutatu (via Bulgaria) Signal on at 1659:27,
deadair, then pgm start w/fanfare, and guitar IS, and right into tlks. All
discussion for the entire pgm. 1756 anncr ment of Inyabutatu (although the
"Inya" part doesn't seem to be pronounced), website www.radioinyabutatu.com
twice, ment of "kilohertz" and "meterband", then what appeared to be a
reference to some of the countries they've been heard: Rwanda, Malawai, Zambia,
Mozambique, Uganda, Tanzania, Cameroon, Canada, and "America". Audio suddenly
stopped at 1759 and signal gone. Fair signal w/heavy fading. (5 Oct.)

** ALBANIA [and non]. 9850, Oct 6 at 0128, R. Tirana IS vs some crackle from
the spurs out of blasting 9860 WHRI, also on other side 9870. More noticeable
at 0131 during the news at lower modulation level from Shijak. Wish RT were on
clearer 9845 or 9840, but with only a triweek to go until B-13, we`ll have to
wait for the move to 7 MHz (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** ARGENTINA [and non]. 15345.25, Oct 6 at 0001, R. Nacional in Spanish with
heavy flutter on good signal, low audible heterodyne, I think from their own
transmitter as nothing else is on 15345; likewise at 0057 recheck. A visual
display would probably show a double peak.

6060, Oct 6 at 0058 sounds like silly pelota game with het, but not // 15345+;
had thought it too might be LRA with its refurbished transmitter. Must have
been SRDA Curitiba as it wasn`t RHC either, see CUBA, and nothing else is
scheduled. The het, however could have been from General Pacheco (Glenn Hauser,
OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** BRAZIL [and non]. 4873, Oct 6 at 0123 is the approx. center of the wandering
distorted blob of something, not quite far enough away from 4875 R. Roraima,
which requires USB tuning on its poor signal (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** BRAZIL. 4915, Oct 6 at 0124, the best S American signal on 60m but with
flutter and CODAR, song in Portuguese, 0127 shouted IDs for R. Daqui, and 10:27
timecheck (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CHAD. 6165-, Oct 6 at 0056, hilife music, fair signal but undermodulated as
always from presumed RNT before Cuba, q.v. (Glen Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** CHINA. 11640, Oct 6 at 0114, Firedrake poor-fair mixed with Chinese jamming.
Seldom find Firedrake in our mornings any more, when on this frequency the
target is RTI, but during the 01-02 hour instead per Aoki it`s R. Free Asia in
Uyghur, 500 kW, 45 degrees from UAE (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 5855-AM, Oct 6 at 0117, huge signal from RHC Spanish. Got to be a 250
kW transmitter on a spy-frequency by mistake. I compare it to others: in synch
with 5040, 11760, 11840-undermodulated; echoing with 9810 and 6100; and 6060 is
missing. 0118 talking about, what else? Los 5. Surely no other prisoners
anywhere get so much support and airtime from their home country; 5855 still
going at 0210 check and 0236 when it`s Los 5 again already. If you`re trying to
make the case that they`re not spies, it might not be a good idea to do it on a
well-known spy frequency! They still haven`t noticed the error at 0327.

RHC English, meanwhile, at 0119 is equally undermodulated on 6000 and 6165, but
6165 has more hum (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CYPRUS. 9311-9347, Oct 6 at 0107 very strong OTH radar pulsing, peaking
right on 9330 WBCQ, poor thing. Still heavy QRM at 0129 recheck. Presumed site;
Greece in well on 9420 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** EQUATORIAL GUINEA. 5005, Oct 5 at 2258, very poor signal with some
modulation, weakens at 2259 and thought off but then something still there;
recheck at 2359 and not there. Thomas Nilsson, Sweden has been reporting RNGE,
Bata reactivated and heard there well earlier at 2115 and as late as 0025 the
past few days. That`s much later than previously scheduled *05-21 (irregular)
per WRTH; nor could I hear it after 0500 Oct 5.

It seems an unlikely coincidence that the R. Africa transmitter on 15190 also
reactivated on Oct 2; then it was gone again on Oct 3 and 4. I was not checking
Oct 5 when Harold Sellers in BC heard it from 2039 until 2053 and dead air past
2140 (Glenn Hauaser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** GREECE [and non]. 9420, Oct 6 at 0108, VG signal but fluttery from VOG with
usual Saturday night = Sunday morning classical music from ERA3 network; more
classical as also usual from ROMANIA on 9525 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** INDIA. 11985, Oct 6 at 0102, no signal from AIR Khampur Sinhala service,
presumed off, since it is in fairly well with subcontinental music on // 11740
via GOA. Propagation is good from other S Asians:

11620, Oct 6 at 0114, S Asian instrumental music, i.e. the AIR Urdu service at
0015-0430 per Aoki, 500 kW, 240 degrees from Bengaluru. Right next to it are
two Tashkents on 11600, 11590; see UZBEKISTAN (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** JAPAN [non]. See UZBEKISTAN

** NETHERLANDS [non]. 7375, UT Sunday Oct 6 at 0130, The Mighty KBC is very
good via Nauen, GERMANY, Uncle Eric back-announcing the Rolling Stones` ``I
Want to be your Man``. Eric says he has a hole in his tooth from eating
chocolate, turns it over to Kim Andrew Elliott to introduce a 1:12 minute
Radiogram. (I wonder if those really into this stuff can begin to build up a
mental picture of the content just by listening to the tones?) 0132, back to
``The Giant Jukebox``, but first, mailbag quoting e-mail from Martin Gallas
saying it`s so strong that maybe could save a few Euro by cutting back to 50 kW
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** PERU. 5980, Oct 6 at 0054, R. Chaski carrier at usual very poor level, but
noise is mainly from 5990 splash rather than jamming for a change; expecting
timer to be reset to cut off before 0100 again, but not yet: still on at 0100,
and finally cuts off at 0106:05* which is 4 seconds later than last night
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1689 monitoring: tune in WTWW-2 on 9930 at 2329 UT
Saturday Oct 5 to find I`m already at the mid-point break, so playback must
have started at 2313; yes, ends at 2342:38; QSY to 5085 announcement, but
really continues on 9930 at 2343 with Amateur Radio Newsline. Seems everything
is running 17 minutes early; at 0000 it`s still on 9930, and recheck 0054 both
frequencies are off. Next WOR: 0401 UT Sunday on WTWW-1 5830 (Glenn Hauser, OK,
DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** UZBEKISTAN. 11590, Oct 6 at 0111, good signal with flutter in song lesson,
explained in S Asian language, but the singing is in Japanese as well as some
of the terms being explained. This strongly suggests it is R. Japan in one of
their prime programming angles, also employed in other language services. Yes:
Aoki shows, R. Japan in Hindi, 0100-0130, 100 kW, 163 degrees via Tashkent.
It`s a ``good transpolar night``.

11600, Oct 6 at 0113, S Asian singing, fair with flutter. Aoki shows this one
is also Tashkent, TWR India service which on Sundays only is in Hindi at
0030-0115, 100 kW, 131 degrees (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 3360, Oct 6 at 0101 weak Spanish, but from its total fadeouts, as
if falling below a threshold, I will assume it`s a DX-398 overload image rather
than list-log it as Voz del Upano, Ecuador, in Aoki tho long gone. If it recur,
may try to find a matching strong signal on a higher band.

12100, Oct 6 at 0116, here`s another one more easily formulated, PMS matched
and synchronized with 5935 WWCR, which is 6165 kHz away from 12100, i.e.
receiver combining it with another strong signal, RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)
