** ALBANIA [and non]. 9515, Oct 12 at 0543, Arab music, very poor while // 9590
is a JBA carrier, i.e. CRI at 05-07 via C?rrik, 240 and 140 degrees
respectively. Would expect 9590 to be better here, closer to directly off the
back. Strangely, Algeria-via-France 9535 normally much stronger, is much weaker
than 9515, and at first I wondered if that had moved to 9515 (Glenn Hauser, OK,
DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** BANGLADESH. 15105, Oct 12 just as I tune in Bangladesh Betar at 1240, it
dumps off the air for about a minute, resuming in English and nice local music,
poor with heavy flutter.

15505, Oct 12 at 1357, BB carrier is VP with flutter; 1358 IS; timesignal is
JBA ending at 1400:02.5 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CHINA. 9645, Oct 12 at 1150, major Western piano concerto, fair signal, and
// 9540 poor; 1155 interrupted! for Cantonese announcement, so it`s CRI, both
via Beijing site, at 215 and 142 degrees respectively per Aoki (Glenn Hauser,
OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CHINA. Firedrake [non] CNR1 jamming Oct 12, before 1400:
12500, very poor at 1351
Except for inband traces on 15 MHz, no others found 12-18 MHz
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA [and non]. 6125, Oct 12 at 0548, RHC English is back on proper
frequency instead of jump to 6150, 24 hours earlier, and // usual 6165, 6060,
6000, 5040. Token broadcast of Austrian classical music on 6155 is again
unimpeded (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** GUATEMALA. 4055, Oct 12 at 1141, Chinese talk backed up by dramatic music,
probably something Biblical, as R. Verdad reproves it is multi-lingual. Earlier
around 0550 I heard Dr. Madrid in English (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** INDIA. 15040, Oct 12 at 1245-1305 enjoying nice music from AIR Burmese
service, poor-fair, via Bengaluru, and better than 15105 BB.

BTW, don`t you believe the MYANMAR heading for a previous log of this in Oct
NASWA Journal: my quick correxion didn`t make it. The editor also made some
strange ``correxions`` to my other logs such as the next one on 15105, ``R.
Pyranga`` (trying for Pyongyang?) instead of Voice of Korea (Glenn Hauser, OK,
DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 680, Oct 12 at 1211 UT, timecheck for 6:12, phone numbers; 1212 now
it`s ``6:14`` so the studio clock must be a sesquiminute fast; then guy on the
phone with detailed ``estado del tiempo`` weather forecast for the entire
nation; must have mentioned every state, until 1220 finally gets to ``nuestra
regi?n del Pac?fico norte``, outro as named Rodr?guez; 1221 ``desde Guasave,
Sinaloa, Noticias en Punto --- Multimedios``. Then on to a report on ``estado
de fresas`` --- strawberries?? They are measured in cubic meters,
``almacenados`` with impressive flow rates --- oh, it`s about *presas* = dams
and their storage and release capacity, etc. at 1223. Cant?:
680 XEORO La Mera Jefa + FM 93.7 Guasave, Sinaloa 1,000 500
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 700, Oct 12 at 1225 UT, choral NA is playing at odd time; 1226 bit
of a song about Chihuahua and Parral, then ID for ``XEGD, La Poderosa``, and
also FM on 90.3, ``sistema combo``; full name of city ``Hidalgo del Parral`` is
rarely heard. Hidalgo means noble or aristocrat, but probably derived here from
name of an historical figure. This station habitually gets off to a rough start
in the mornings, with dead air, hum, variable sign-ons, etc. (Glenn Hauser, OK,
DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 780, Oct 12 at 1206 UT, full ID for ``La Poderosa``, ``25 a?os
sirviendo a la regi?n``, XESFT, also FM 103.7, ``Grupo Radiorama, la cadena que
une a M?xico``, then live show about Tamaulipas. Cant?:
780 XESFT La Triple T + FM 103.7 San Fernando, Tamps. 5,000 1,000
Did not hear the ``Triple T`` slogan mentioned, but maybe missed it. This with
KSPI Stillwater OK completely nulled, and it`s too late for WBBM to be a
problem (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 810, Oct 12 at 1228 UT, rough hum loops NE/SW, overcome at *1229 by
WHB KC as it pops onto day power and pattern, but can still hear the hum for a
while. Only two XEs in the NW part of the country:
810 XESB Radio Mexicana +FM 94.9 Hidalgo del Parral, Chih. 1,000 1,000
810 XERSV Tribuna Radio Cd. Obreg?n, Son. 5,000 D
per Cant?, so XESB is most likely. Altho KXOI, Crane (Odessa) TX is on the way
with Spanish religion (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 900, Oct 12 at 1202 UT, federal PSAs, ID only as ``900``, 1203
tel?fonos en cabina 83-77-97-73 y 83-79-88-39 for call-ins to live show from
Iglesia de --- Impacto. Googling on Mexican phone numbers is usually
unproductive and so are these, but there is an Iglesia de Alto Impacto of the
Disciples of Christ in Monterrey NL, as I already strongly suspect this is
XEOK, OK?

You might think http://radioacir.net would go to network HQ in the DF, but it`s
axually XEOK`s own page, and displays the two phone numbers at the bottom,
except 83-77-95-73 instead of the -97- I must have miscopied.

(Why didn`t USA just go to 8-digit local phone numbers, immediately dekamating
the availabilities, rather than messing with overlaying more and more area
codes, requiring 10-digit dialing??)

Beware: website autolaunches audio whether wanted or not. Cant?:
900 XEOK OK 900 AM Monterrey, N.L. 10,000 2,500
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [non]. 12075, Sat Oct 12 at 1310, jazz hour from VOA neatly ensconced
between RA country music on 12065 & 12085. Soon confirmed as such by // much
better 7575, but nothing on 12150 where we used to hear it. Aoki and HFCC still
show Sat & Sun 13-14: 12150 from Tinang, 12075 from TINIAN, and 7575 THAILAND
(and one more: 9510 Tinang) (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 5830, Oct 12 at 1146, WTWW-1 is missing, nor on day frequency 9479;
but WTWW-2 is active on 5085, and WWCR is inbooming on 5935. 1308 check: still
no 9479 or 5830, but 9930 WTWW-2 is on with BS, and 12105 WTWW-3 is on in
Russian; 1354 still no 9479 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

The latest radio heritage feature on the Radio New Zealand
International Mailbox program is broadcast:

* Monday October 14 2013
* see www.rnzi.com for all shortwave broadcast times and dates
* live audio streaming at www.rnzi.com
* available as archived audio after broadcast

Continuing the contemporary Hawaiian radio series and visiting the FM
radio stations you'll find in Honolulu with an exclusive review of
websites, programs, personalities and interesting facts and comments
from David Ricquish of the Radio Heritage Foundation.

The Honolulu FM dial is dominated by several clusters of stations
owned by major broadcasters such as Clearchannel and Salem all based
on the US mainland, and there are relatively few locally owned and
operated stations.
Listeners hear much the same music, formats and other content as
those in similar sized radio markets in other parts of the USA.

Reggae and island music stations do exist and this program will visit
some of these locally flavored stations as well.

* Pacific Asian Listener Radio Guide lists all current Hawaiian AM
radio stations at www.radioheritage.net

** BRAZIL [and non]. 4874, Oct 13 at 0055, approx. center of wandering blob vs
4875 Rdif. Roraima, so need to hear it on USB.

4885, Oct 13 at 0142, fair signal with romantic music, presumed R. Clube do
Par?. I notice that there are CODAR swishes when listening on USB, while there
are none at all on LSB (but a fleeting lite ``running water`` ute) (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA [and non]. 12060, Oct 13 0119, grinding jammer vs station in Spanish.
So the DentroCuban jamming command is not only hitting R. Mart? on 6030, but La
Voz de Rusia via ARMENIA on its second harmonic!

6000, Oct 13 at 0128, English here is not from RHC, but CRI! // 9580 and
synchronized, as the RadioCuba operators have got their wires crossed again.
RHC English is at least on 6165. There can only be a finite number of possible
errors, and RHC is racking them up, one by one (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** DIEGO GARCIA. 12759-USB, Oct 13 at 0117, AFN is barely making it, very poor
signal with music; 0136 it`s better with some talk and rock music. Unless the
government shutdown has modified it, manager gave me schedule last month that
on Sunday mornings there are no relays of the local FM outlet, so presumably
plugged into some network service now. At least this confirms it`s still on the
air, unlike Guam (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** EAST TURKISTAN [and non]. 11870, Oct 13 at 0121, CRI English mixing about
equally with WEWN Spanish. This hour only, it`s 173 degrees from Kashgar. 11870
is also subject to breakthru of the second harmonic of 5935 WWCR, from receiver
overload if not axual radiation, but not at the moment (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST) See also CUBA

** INDIA. 11985 // 11740, Oct 13 at 0054, AIR Sinhala service is on both
tonight and about equal level (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** IRAN. 12080.0, Oct 13 at 0119, Qur`an, fair-good with flutter, so IRIB is
back on-frequency, in the same 1620-0520 UT transmission I logged Oct 11 at
2017 on 12081.5, listed as Zahedan site. Meanwhile, Wolfgang B?schel had
notified IRIB of his logs of the other 15150-off frequency transmission and
forwarded my log, so this may have caused it to be fixed (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6965-AM, Oct 13 at 0057, sounds like ``Peter Gunn`` theme
vamping, but turns into something else. Best signal by far of all the pirates
tonite, but 0101.5 announcement with music background is a bit undermodulated;
mentions ``broadcasting under the stars this evening``, ``second week of
October``, ``cat`s fur is starting to change color``, musing on Xmas, fall and
Hallowe`en.

0103 address xfmshortw...@gmail.com and always welcomes reports on FRN, FRC, HF
Underground; live timecheck as 4 minutes after 1 o`clock; `` no new music
tonight but some slower stuff``; acknowledges a report on HFU; ID as ``XFM, the
Power of X``, intro Red Hot Chili Peppers, but first where`s the liner?
``Broadcasting in C-Quam stereo from the United States to the World on
shortwave, this is XFM, music to the power of X`` is asserted. Still going at
0110 and later chex till I quit at 0140 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6950-AM, Oct 13 at 0058, another pirate, but very poor with
SSB QRM; 0107 says going to shut down very shortly, gives e-mail which
presumably includes an ID but I can`t copy it in the noise; says will be back
tomorrow or the next day. Now there is no QRM. ``Have a good evening, all``,
e-mail again and again can`t copy it; 0109 music, goes off at 0114*. Maybe this
was MAC Shortwave per numerous logs on HF Underground starting at 2257 Oct 12,
but none yet posted later than 0033 Oct 13 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6925-AM, Oct 13 at 0058, weak signal music mixing with SSB
QRM (``peskies`` to the HFU folk); 0135 still too weak. HF Underground posts
name it Radio Free Whatever (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6940-RCDSB, Oct 13 at 0106 announces 6-9-4-0 as I tune in,
music; 0112 talking and weird vocal SFX. 0113 synthetic YL says ``coming up
next is Radio Jamba International``. SSB tuning helps as the carrier is
somewhat reduced, but on both sidebands equally. 0130 it`s better with drumming
but some audio interruptions; 0133 strange/strained voices ranting about
Microsoft, pancakes, basketball, pork rinds, etc. (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** NORTH AMERICA. 9775, Oct 13 at 0111 and a couple more chex, still no more
show from Radio YHWH. Wonder if they are using other frequencies? (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** PERU. 5980, Oct 13 at 0052, R. Chaski carrier with heavy splash from 5990
CRI via Cuba; cuts off at 0100:56.5* which is 5.5 seconds later than yesterday
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1690 monitoring: excellent signal confirmed starting
at 2329:05 Saturday Oct 12 on 9930 WTWW-2, following some gospel music. Next:
UT Sunday 0401v on 5830 WTWW-1 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 7555, Oct 13 at 0124, KJES is missing on this UT Sunday. It was on
last night, in Spanish (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 7490, Oct 13 at 0124, WBCQ is off the air. Online schedule still
shows `VSI Radio International`, at 01-02 UT Sundays, but some weeks ago Paul
Lambert told us he was going back to Wednesdays, expecting a larger audience,
but at what time? Brother Scare usage of 7490 skips Saturdays/UT Sundays, with
the only other show currently listed being `Heart & Soul of America`, Sat 23-01
Sun. Lots of good airtime going to waste. Checking 9330 and 5110, those are on
the air as usual (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

This report dispatched at 0343 UT Oct 13

** U S A. 7506.4, Oct 13 at 0125, WRNO is on and so strong that it`s putting
modulation spike spurs from 7485 or so to 7524 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** UZBEKISTAN. 11730, Oct 13 at 0122, S Asian language, good with flutter, and
slight hum. Aoki shows it`s Vatican Radio via Tashkent at 0040-0200 including
Malayalam at 0120-0140 to be followed by English.

11600, Oct 13 at 0122, another S Asian language via Tashkent, as TWR India is
back, listed Dzonka for Bhutan, after missing yesterday, and weaker than:
11590, Oct 13 at 0122, NHK Hindi service

WRTH shows there are 11 x 100 kW transmitters available for all these relays
(but not for Radio Tashkent, defunct) (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. TA carrier search, Oct 13 at 0046-0051: JBA on 1521, 1215, 1152,
1044, 882 kHz, not necessarily in that order, and not 783 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)
