I don't go hunting specifically for radio navigation beacons but If I'm
bored or think conditions are good, I might tune down that way with my ICOM
IC746Pro and 25 foot long by 10 foot tall magnetic loop antenna. I'm in
Laramie, WY
And Thanks to Christopher Arthur, he's helped me ID a few. About the
farthest away one I've heard is "QT", 332khz, 1000 Watts from Thunder Bay,
Ontario. Actually, the airport is SW of the city limits a bit and the
beacon is a few miles SW of that near whats labeled as a potato farm!
Here's audio of "QT", 332khz. Recorded Mon Nov 18th at 1015pm mountain time
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Vq1fpdWwYqr7HTUvsglZuj-jYCn64hfg/view?usp=sharing
A tip for anyone into beacon hunting... Canadian beacons stick out real
well because there's a real long really deep sounding beep at the end.

** ASCENSION. 15685, Sat Nov 23 at 1907, unknown language with silly
ballgame coverage complete with crowd noise and hyper hosts, S9 to
S9+10 on a frequency usually vacant since WWCR moved to 15825 years
ago. Suspect DW which for some reason covers SBGs in Hausa ---- NO,
HFCC shows it`s BBC doing the same (potentially?) every Saturday in
B-19, 1700-1930, 250 kW, 65 degrees from ASC. Why is this? Some
player(s) from Hausaland on Euro football teams? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** CHINA. 6230, Nov 23 at 2222, Chinese JBA on this Sound of Hope
frequency subject to 24 hour CNR1 jamming.

6870, Nov 23 at 2334, ditto except this one is S7-S9 (Glenn Hauser,
OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 6000, Nov 24 at 1448, RHC is S9 of dead air; 1454 maybe just
barely modulated; something`s always wrong at RHC.

13631, Nov 24 at 1450, RHC FM/AM spurblob; and at 1452 a much weaker
one with F# tone around 13562; but when I tune up to source 13700,
it`s just gone off along with the spurs before I can seek them on the
plus side. Something`s always wrong at RHC.

15140, Nov 24 at 1454, this RHC is off while 15230 is on; recheck at
1540, 15140 is back on at S9+20, much stronger than 15230 S9.
Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** ERITREA. 7140, Nov 24 at 1531 JBA continuous AM carrier, at prime
evening time for VOBME to arrive via long-path; less of a trace on the
other frequency 7180 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** IRAN [and non]. 6220, Nov 23 at 2220, carrier with 1 kHz tone,
making it seem like 3 carriers 6219-6220-6221; presumably the Sirjan
jammer which started this week trying to block Iran International TV,
a satellite service from London which first appeared on 6210 in
response to Iran blocking internet access. USAGM and BBC also hastened
to step up SW to Iran. Much more about this summarized on WORLD OF
RADIO 2009. Later report from Ivo Ivanov:

``UZBEKISTAN, Iran International TV audio via RRTM Tashkent Nov 23
0400-1200 11570*TAC 100 kW / 236 deg Farsi, fair to good
1200-0400 6220 TAC 100 kW / 236 deg Farsi + STANAG (alt.6230/6270)

0400-1500 17695 unknown tx (UDO/PHT) to WeAs NO SIGNAL FROM NOV 21!
Iran International TV audio is under "NOR", according to AGM RMS
locations.

https://swldxbulgaria.blogspot.com/2019/11/iran-international-tv-audio-via-rrtm.html
-- 73! Ivo Ivanov``

Ron Howard was again hearing intermittent tones on 6220 the next day
between 1225 and 1445. By 1730 Nov 24, Wolfgang Bueschel found Iran
International TV on 6230, still presumably Uzbekistan, but no
tone/jamming yet.

Kai Ludwig explains that ``NOR`` is code for Noratus, the Armenian
transmitter site a.k.a. ERV, a.k.a. Gavar, a.k.a. CJSC = Closed Joint
Stock Company, per WRTH 2019 which also claims the site has 3 x 100 kW
and 3 x 1000 kW SW transmitters! Altho there are plenty of nominal
500s, HFCC has not a single listing of 1000 kW anywhere (Glenn Hauser,
OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** PERU. 4775, Radio Tarma notified Manuel M?ndez that today Nov 23
they would be testing their new 1.4 kW transmitter between 20 and 02
UT; and at 10-14, asking for reception reports. They were going to get
a 2 kW transmitter so maybe this is it but not at full power. Too
early to propagate here, but Mauno Ritola in Finland was seeing it by
2030 on 4775.04.

Tarma sunset is not until 2310 UT (And sunrise 1028) per gaisma.com.
Varies less than an hour during the year. Our sunset in Enid: 2319.

At 2330 I have two stations, the stronger on the minus side around
4774.95, presumably Congonhas, Brasil, with talking and even yelling,
vs CODAR on both sides. And making low het with the other. At least
now easier to separate them.

4775.041, Nov 24 at 0016, now the upper one dominates with music, vs
CODAR double swishes every second. At 0019 it`s recognizably
``Andean``, rather than Congonhan. Hearing same Andean music as on
their webstream via
https://www.radiotarma.com/
which is in $tereo and no CODAR; various IDs every few minutes, one
for FM 90.9 only. Unfortunately the Programaci?n page is blank (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SAO TOME. 13590.060V, Nov 23 at 1909, DJ in English sounds like
VOA-1, but so far off frequency, and wavering slightly? Pinheira site
scheduled this hour only, 100 kW at 138 degrees. Kuwait and UAE both
use 13590 earlier and are more adept at offfrequenciness, but of
USAGM`s own sites, ST also has a record of this, e.g. 6080+ (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SCOTLAND [non]. 6115, UT Sun Nov 24 at 0100, `Encore` classical
music from Radio Tumbril via WWCR again this week, near-perfect
reception except for constant squeal on WWCR-1; 0150 starts to fade a
bit and cut off at 0158 for QSY to 3215; not clear how much of the
``playout`` piece, La P?ri, was lost. Website playlist is 2 weeks old.
Another chance at 0100 UT Monday on WBCQ 7490v, and maybe like last
week also on 500 kW 9330 as a testing bonus (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** SPAIN. 9690, Nov 23 at 1916, no signal from REE which ought to be
propagating by now; nor at 2229 when certainly if it were on, while
the other 3 are OK, in increasing order of strength, 11685, 11940,
12030 still during silly ballgame (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2009 monitoring: WA0RCR, 1860-AM, MO, UT Sun
Nov 24 at 0427 is still in ham SSTV; by 0500 WOR 2009 is playing at

** U S A. 9330.00, Nov 23 at 1915, WBCQ-6 is on with WLC, averaging
only S9 so presumably aimed away from us now. At 0007 UT Nov 24, John
Carver notifies me, ``Area 51 is also broadcasting on 9330 this
evening.`` But when I check at 0215 it`s rather weak and noisy. UT
Sunday A51 programming is: 0000 Timtron; 0100 GRITS; 0200 Lumpy Gravy;
0300 Euphoria; 0400 Lost Discs. But at 0359 recheck it`s already back
to wacky WLC`s menacing `cello IS loop for the
end-of-hour/end-of-world (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

I logged Radio Algierienne's "Chaine 3" french language network via the
1,500,000 Day/750,000 Watt Night transmitter on 252khz in Tipaza, Algeria.
I'm in Laramie, Wyoming 5400 miles away from the 252khz transmitter site.
Here's the audio from that logging.

Here's some jazzy chill-out type music from Tue Nov 19th at 636pm mountain
time (0036UTC Wed Nov 20)

I use an ICOM IC746Pro, a 25 foot long by 10 foot tall magnetic loop
antenna and a Zoom H1 handheld digital recorder (The headphone jack output
of the radio is fed directly to my recorders line-in input)

Yes, I know, but it should be useful for everyone to keep in mind their SS/SR
times, which vary less than an hour during the year.

Also here around 0030 on 4775.04 --- at least now easier to separate from
Congonhas. They were going to get a 2 kW transmitter so maybe this is it but
not at full power.

Hearing same `Andean` music as on their webstream via
https://www.radiotarma.com/

where there are no CODAR double-swishes every second

Thank you, Glenn, I know, I have DX-Atlas :-) On shortwave signals can be heard

Seems, that Radio Tarma is on 4775.04 kHz, the carrier started to be visible
here in Finland after 2030.

Now at 2150 there is already audio and I can hear, that it is in Spanish.

KDDD 800 Dumas, TX will cease the "All Ag All Day" farm format on
Thanksgiving day. The producers of the format had been leasing the signal,
some new owners bought KDDD AM and FM awhile back and want to do something
different with it I assume. (Just heard that announcement over the air in
Laramie, WY when tuning past AM 800)

I think KGAB 650 Cheyenne WY is off the air. It's been incommunicado aka
missing for the last 2 hours I've been checking for it and with 8.5KW from
only 40 miles away it should be very audible. I've heard nothing but KMTI
Manti, UT owning the channel this afternoon.. which is very very very rare
here in Laramie, WY. Even on the 500 watt directional signal, I should be
able to hear them

Cat and mouse play,
6230 kHz channel at 00.50 UT
In Kuwait remote SDR still Iran International TV program is the S=9+25dB
powerhouse.

But in remote SDR units in
western Europe, like Greece, Calabria, Sweden, Finland and Holland,
IRIB Arabic from Sirjan is stronger than Iran Internat.

Most likely Sirjan is used fro jamming on various 289, 300, 320 degrees
bearing azimuths towards the west.

IRIB Arabic program \\ is also heard via scheduled 6060 kHz
IRIB Zahedan til 02.30 UT.

Best antenna characteristics in Iranian jamming would be
usage of the fountain signal ITU #935 quadrant NVIS antenna
from Ahwaz location on these 6210 .... 6270 kHz channels.

Unfortunately in April 2017 IRIB closed the big gun
most effective two steep skywave fountain NVIS beam antennas
from broadcast center at Kamalabad location.
Center contain also 4 revolving and 12 curtain arrays of Telefunken Germany

Typical steep skywave fountain usage via Kamalabad these days:
6035 kHz 1920-2020 UT towards zones 28E,29,30 KAM 500kW 0=nondir ITU#935
