Hi Glenn,

March 26 (Sunday) - Yes, from 0723 to 0755 UT, heard Echo of Hope - VOH, still
on 7720 kHz. (ex: 9100); the weekend
only reading of a portion today from Chapter 14 of "Harry Potter and the
Sorcerer's Stone" (segment starting with "Elixir
of Life, which will make the drinker immortal"); program starts and ends with
the same theme music; fair reception; too
early for the other frequencies.
https://www.ircambridge.com/books/Book1-Harry-Potter-and-the-Sorcerers-Stone.pdf

contains the whole book online.

Seems perhaps VOH has permanently settled on this new frequency?

BTW - Radio Vanuatu not heard on any of their usual frequencies from 0645+ UT,
March 26.

ps. probably refurbishing work at Riyadh broadcast center at present,
though their 9 x highpower transmitter are mostly not elder than a decade
...

These UAE, Oman and Saudi Arabia states are also developing
architecturally rapidly and with enormous amounts of money,
see Qatar Football World Cup grandiose urban development -
- so - do the Saudi's perhaps need the Riyadh TX site
for other government or urban building development soon ?

What is actually the current use of the shortwave transmitters in Saudi
Arabia? Are the Riyadh facilities, meanwhile encircled by construction
sites, still in operation at all? Tonight nothing can be confirmed on 9555,
9650, 7425, 11820, 11915. Probably active are 9675 and 11930, and pretty
likely the two specials on 11745 and 11860. Definitely Riyadh Radio on 1521.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhpuSD1xnvM pretty much looks as if the new
radio program has been set up at Dubai as well. Just the Al Arabiya boss
appears to be in Riyadh or to move back and forth between both locations...

** CHINA [and non]. So what`s holding up on 16m in A23 after 0000 UT?
Only JBA carriers March 27 at 0017 on 17560, 17580, 17880. HFCC: 17560
USAGM Tinang, Philippines in Chinese, ergo also jammed; 17580 CNR from
LIN site; 17880 CRI Portuguese from Beijing site aimed NW toward
Brasil (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA [and non]. 6000, March 27 at 0028, will RHC be in English here
as early as 0000 in summer? No, undermodulated Spanish at S9+20/30 and
6165 is not on. Something`s always wrong at RHC. 9700, unlisted
frequency from RHC recently in Spanish or English is now occupied by
VG Romania in Spanish at 02-03 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 5025, March 27 at 0631, R. Rebelde S9+20/30 but distorted.
Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EGYPT. 9884.958, March 27 at 0027, dead air of S9/+15 direct,
something new about to sign on? No, still dead past 0100. Suspect it`s
Radio Cairo since also -42v Hz off frequency; and indeed ERTU is in
HFCC A23 on 9885 as 2330-0045 to CIRAFs 13 & 15 from Abis, 125 kW, 252
degrees in Arabic. At 0059 I try Maryland SDR, where it`s S9+10/20 and
-45 Hz offset. Still going at 0115, but cuts off at 0116*.

I suspect it has finally switched to 9860, which was supposed to start
at 0045 in Spanish until 0200. I retune immediately at 0116 to 9860
and there it is, same signal level, same dead air, same offset until
cuts off at 0207*. For further checking, also A23 sked: 2115-2245
still 9440 English, 2215-2330 9900 Portuguese. Obviously two
transmitters would have to be working at 2215-2245 if both were to be
simulheard, unlikely. One of them used to be about +2.5 kHz (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KURDISTAN [non]. 17460, March 27 at 1522, algo JBA but stronger
than JJBBA on 17480. Presumably one is Deng? Welat and the other the
Turkish jammer. FWIW, HFCC A23 shows nothing on 17460, 17470 or 17480,
but somestuff somewhen on 17475, 17485, 17490.

At 1800 into UTwente, two very strong on 17470 & 17480 not QRMing each
other; I hardly care which be which. At 1847, still separate, 17470
much stronger. But by 1905 both on 17480 making a fast SAH. UTwente
Synch reads +6 Hz, and then +10. Songs are dominant, but still could
be either.

Next check UTwente at 2038: they are separate again, both quite
weakened into the night: 17470 talk, 17480 music. Then at 2040, 17480
starts declaiming, I guess Recep? No, at 2044 on 17470 a music liner
like I hear on VOT English (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NEW ZEALAND. 13840, March 27 at 0632, RNZP is here ex-13755, just
as VG, S9+20/30. HFCC A23 as of today shows it registered available
1830-0800. On RNZP own sked, only: 0559-0858, but DRM at 1859-2058.
Why move off 13755? Nothing between 1600 & 0900. Adjacents? On 13760,
nothing 06-09; on 13750 only Romania Sundays only 07-08. But:

``13840 kHz suffers from co-channel QRM {from what??} between
0600-0800 UT. I have checked my own KiwiSDR, as well as KiwiSDRs in
Kyushu Japan and Indonesia. However, it seems that it does not affect
the listeners in Australia and the Pacific and the QRM are {not?} too
noticeable. yogi_miaow (QTH Hong Kong)`` on the WOR iog (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. RF 18, March 27 circa 1600 UT, SCRIPPS non-cable news
channel is now on virtual 62-5 via KOPX OKC, just switched from 62-6,
why? And it was originally on 62-7. I check the entire lineup per PSIP
labels:
62-1 ION
62-2 Bounce
62-3 CourtTV
62-4 Grit
62-5 SCRIPPS
62-5 Jewelry
62-7 ShopLC
62-8 HSN
Rabbitears.info already shows same lineup; also icon that 62-1
transmits secondary audio, something I have not explored in a long
time. Pressing the SAP button on the STB remote makes it toggle
between English and Spanish labels -- but both are speaking English
only, during the commercials running when I try at 1740 UT, and still
so when back to `Criminal Minds` drama.

My old Set Top Box remembers to intersperse some other virtual 62s out
of RF47: I don`t even remember what that was. But searching out a
2014y log of mine, that fits for KSMO-TV in Kansas City. Now that`s
one of the still few ATSC 3.0 stations I could not decode, on RF 32,
virtual 62 (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** ROMANIA. I don`t have RRI`s A23 frequencies memorized, but soon
encounter them in bandscanning: March 26 at 0020 in English on 11620,
S9/+20, and at 0025 on // 9550, S9/+10 but low het perhaps Brasil. In
Romanian, at 0022 on 11945 equal level to 11620; // 9730, S9+10/20
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. At 2046 March 27 I check UTwente for SNR reception, not
expecting the best as it`s generally too close for HF skips: NO signal
on 17855 for NAm, but 17715 for SAm has weak sig. 15520 for ME is fair
- and no CubaRM; 11670 for Af is best but with squeal, always the
worst in NAm. Then I check Virginia SDR: 17855 is indeed OFF - great
start for the season with English coming up at 2200 ex-2300; 17855 was
on *March 26, Englishless Sunday. In VA, 17715 is S4/S7 about equal to
15520 as `Espa?oles en la Mar` hour is concluding.

>From 2202 I`m trying again for English: still no 17855 anywhere; 15520
is sufficient to Maryland SDR, S5/S9, and I stick here since it`s a
very interesting interview about the Spanish language with someone
from Scotland who is a member of the Real Academia Espa?ola, Alexis
Furman? Spanish is now the second-most spoken language in the world
after Mandarin, by 600 megapeople including 500M native speakers. EUA
will soon be second-largest SS country after M?xico, overtaking
Argentina, Spain. Is now official language in 20 countries, adding
Guinea Ecuatorial. Is easy to learn, very logical, unlike English et
al. Discussion of keeping accents, including a few cases where they
are used to distinguish `same` words with different meanings such as
solo vs s?lo, mas vs m?s. Each SS country has its own Academy and they
all co?perate with the RAE. A congress this year has been quickly
rearranged by Spain due to unrest in Per? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TAJIKISTAN. 13809.966, March 27 at 1518, JBA talk off-frequency.
HFCC A23 shows at 1500-1700, USAGM Chinese Mandarin via DB site. A
jammer would probably be more accurate (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785, March 26 at 2157 I`m all set for VOT`s new English
to N America frequency, via Maryland SDR. Nothing until chops on
slightly late about *2200:20 as horribly accented YL is reading
schedule. No problem from 11780 Brasil - weak signal there, might not
even be on. Mainly listening to UBMP this hour, I catch her horribly
accented sign/off at 2253 when she cites only four English broadcasts
with new times and frequencies in jumbled presentation, not including
this one! 1230-1330 15450; 1830-1930 5945 Eu; 2030-2130 9875 SAs;
1630-1730 11660 ME. Chopped off at 2254* before IS can complete only
once. Something`s awry in Ankara, erroneous in Emirler.

Quick check March 27 at 2201: 11785 is VG into UTwente, but some
splash from 11775 Chinese, also VG into Maryland SDR, but I`m mainly
escuching Spain, the two insisting on Englishing us at sametime. At
least there is no more CCCCCCI on 11785 like there was on 5960.
Sign-off and presumably sign-on continues to omit this very broadcast,
rather four others. Once off by 2254, Brasil is a bigsig on 11780, but
not a problem earlier (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U K [non]. 12095, March 27 at 1528, B-B-C chimes at S8/S9, 1529.5
opening in Korean - one language BBC has not yet abandoned, sked
1530-1830, 250 kW, 25 degrees from SINGAPORE, so carries on well to
CNAm far beyond Korea North (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2183 monitoring: confirmed UT
Monday March 27 at 0030 on WRMI 7780, VP vs noise level despite S9/+10
direct, blasted by noise first 14 seconds.

Also confirmed UT Monday March 27 from 0304 on WBCQ Area 51 after some
songs on 6160 minus 67 Hz into Maryland SDR at S8/9+5. Next:
