** ALASKA. 4850, Aug 10 at 0632, JBA carrier far enough from 4840
WWCR, and maybe modulation audible if not for the high storm noise
level. Tnx to Bryan Clark, NZ, who reports this Aug 10 at 0458!
``[WOR] UNIDENTIFIED CARRIER 4850 on 9 August --- Hi Glenn, I observed
a reasonably steady carrier on 4849.994 from 0713 UTC Sunday {Aug 9}
through till I tuned out at 1008 UTC when I measured it at 4849.995.
No traces of audio throughout. Searching around various KiwiSDRs, I
could see a 4850 carrier on Bonaire and Argentinean sites, and some on
the US West Coast, all weak with no audio.
However on WL5N's Kiwi at Fairbanks Alaska there was audio with US
talkshow 'Coast to Coast AM'. ID on the half hour as "Radio 9-70,
KFBX" which is in Fairbanks. 4850 is the fifth harmonic of 970. The
MWOffsets list has a February 2026 frequency measurement for KFBX of
969.9945 varying up to 970.003, which would give a fifth harmonic
frequency range of 4849.973 up to 4850.015.
If I see/hear this 60 metre band carrier again, I will try some
overnight recording to determine a fadeout time. I note that you had
an UNID on 4850 back in March, so perhaps that was the same
transmitter I had last evening. The Alaskan harmonic seems a very
longshot as to the source of my reception last night. Will ontinue

Nothing listed now, and around noon in Xinjiang but which is JB

If there be one harmonic, there could well be others: likely less
signal the higher they go, but also the less noise as long as below
the prevailing MUF. Odds more likely than evens. So the others to
check: 1940, 2910, 3880, (4850), 5820, 6790, 7760, 8730, 9700...
So I do that circa 16 UT Aug 10, on the Fairbanx SDR at local range:
1940 is S9+10/12; 2910 S9+5/10 distorted, mixing with some other
audio; 3880 trace? 4850 S8/S9 distorted. Not detected on 5820, 6790,
7760, 8730; and 9700 blocked by something Chinese i.e. Alaskan
fundamental KNLS until 1600, then clear. It`s 594 km = 369 stmi from
Anchor Point to Fairbanx (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 6000, Aug 10 at 0524, surprise! RHC is on, in English, about
relations with Colombia, S9+25/30 but overmodulatedistorted, and then
during music, very suptorted == suppressed and distorted. Some things
always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** FRANCE. 17545, Aug 10 at 1508, S9+10 into Azores SDR,
Mini-Atlantique marine weather by M in French, 1515 switch to W in
English, with G.C. of high pressure areas, etc. North and West, N and
W, are sufficiently distinct that you don`t need to clarify them as
``November`` and ``Whiskey``. After 1541, some brief breaks in
transmission from Issoudun and/or in modulation. Her accent is so
heavy that when she switch to English it still sound like French, till
you ``lock into`` it. Says will be playing classic rock songs, which
start at 1542 after ``? demain``. Such as `House of the Rising Sun`.
Surely the race be almost over by now (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** OKLAHOMA [and non]. 91.3, Aug 10 at 2000 UT into caradio, AFN news
marginal, 2004 outro as American Family Radio. Presumably closest,
KAXR Ark. City KS, 13.5 kW rather than further KAKO Ada OK, 100 kW V
only; audiblized by absence of KKRD 91.1 Enid, Air1; it and 105.5
K268FX are OFF again, from atop the decrepit Broadway Tower in
downtown Enid. Also OFF: 89.3, KIEL Loyal OK, 3.8 kW mono R. 74

Also confirmed UT Monday August 10 at 0030 on WRMI 7780, S9/+20 into
Georgia SDR with storm crashes.

webcast only, just as WBCQ 5130- switched to signing off.
Also confirmed Monday August 10 at 1930.5 on SW Radio Gold, Germany,
6160.002- S9+5/10 and 3974.999- S9+5/10 both into UTwente. Next:
