Same on August 31 spotcheck ~0620z, unfortunately. I'm beginning to
think it's their transmitter being horribly mismanaged. 0550z (or even
before) is not unheard of. In fact there's a lot of schedule material
floating around having them start at 0550z for their morning broadcast
on 5995 kHz. They might even think they are transmitting and continue
until someone in their target audience complains. Has anyone tried

UNIDENTIFIED. Re tone on 660: ``FYI, I also heard that 1 kHz tone on
660, here in Edmonton. Antenna roughly South East. Same date {Aug
25}. At 0940 UT but gone when I checked at 1032. Though it could
easily have been after sunrise at the transmitter site by then. 73,
Jon Pearkins`` -- the three closest to SE from Edmonton are: KEYZ
Williston ND, KCRO Omaha NE, and WXQW Fairhope AL. Also his report as
in IRCA DX Monitor:
``UnID 8/25 0535-0540 {EDT} noted w/1 kHz test tone with antenna
pointed SE, gone at 0632 recheck. Not an artifact of the SR-286 as it

UNIDENTIFIED. 6040, Aug 31 at 2219, S9+30/20 open carrier; so strong
has got to be a USA transmitter. Nothing in HFCC, Aoki or EiBi. SSOB,
much stronger than 5850 WRMI this early even tho aimed thisaway.
Unless some utility intruder, best guess would be Greenville B
testing, which they sometimes do apart from regular frequencies, such
as 6030 for Mart? but not until 0100 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
