``I haven't asked anyone at the station, but I know that transmitters
have something in common with accordions - letting one sit totally
idle for too long isn't necessarily good for it. Bill Tilford``
``Today I sent an enquiry to Lee Houser of WLC radio together with a
couple of reports via their online form. Reception was poor here at
06:00 and after 09:00, with only about S-5 on my meter with moderate
fading. Here is his reply:
"The WLC Radio broadcast is still not up and running 100%. Allan
Wiener is currently broadcasting with a backup transmitter, reduced
power, and an Ampegon antenna pointed at 245 degrees. It's wonderful
to hear that you were still able to pick up the signal, even if it was
less than optimal. Thank you for letting me know about the e-QSL
service bug. We'll resolve this as quickly as we are able."
The 50 kW txs at WBCQ are probably permanently routed to existing
antennas (rhombic?) so maybe they have hooked up another small tx to
the Ampegon instead. Obviously the 500 kW unit needs some work to be

Radio-locator shows station phone is in AC 713. NRC AM Log not keyed
as Spanish. Own website https://1160hope.com/programguidedaily does
not show a Spanish show before or after 1:30 am CDT Mondays, but I
still doubt it be anything else. NRC AM Log shows SS on 1160 from:
WEWC FL and KCTO Cleveland MO. Possibly the latter, U4 5000/230.
Certainly not the only Mexican, daytimer XEQIN in BC; in Mexico, AC
773 applies to: Tula de Allende, Hidalgo. Meanwhile, KSL SLC is not a
factor; never very audible here and wonder if its U1 50/50 kW status

** U S A. Re 1690 kHz: ``More on WMLB 1690 Atlanta --- It was recently
sold to Chicago-based Heartland Signal, a liberal talk network.
Previously it was owned by Disrupter Radio which is conservative
talker John Fredericks` radio network. He has about 23 stations. They
were pretty popular in conservative circles. He even had a party at
WildWings Cafe in which there were 300 attendees (including me). He
bought WMLB in 2019 for $500K and recently sold it for $450K. He has
some connection with Salem Media but I'm not sure what. WMLB started
out as a liberal talker with Air America but went dark. They were dark
for several years until Fredericks bought it. They do not have an FM
translator. He had no local office or sales team. All programming
originated at the transmitter via internet and satellite. He had a
good signal locally day and night. I was one of his local monitors
alerting him of any technical problems (mostly dead air). If you like
