Pat -- Go to http://sourceforge.net/projects/worldvista and download the latest OpenVistA VivA live CD (currently version 0.4). Coupled with a 512MB USB drive (unfortunately, the database is a little too big to fit on a 256MB flash drive), it makes for a great VistA demo. Boot it with the USB flash drive connected, then start a shell, and type:
sudo insmod usb-storage sudo mount -t vfat /dev/sda1 /mnt/sda1 sudo /usr/local/OpenVistA/vista The second command may vary, especially if the PC has multiple USB ports. The third will pop up a dialog box to allow you to choose where to install the OpenVistA database and take you to a GTM> prompt from where you can type D ^XUP, D P^DI, etc. For a great Linux live CD, you would be hard pressed to do better than Knoppix 3.6 (http://knopper.net/knoppix/index-en.html). Unfortunately, there's not enough room on Knoppix for VistA, so the OpenVistA live CD omits much of what is in Knoppix (e.g., Open Office) and is instead based on Morphix (http://morphix.org). Another great Linux live CD to have is Damn Small Linux 0.8 (http://damnsmalllinux.org). Burned on a business card size 50MB CD-R, it is a great tool to carry around. Remember those credit-card size Swiss army tools that people would carry around in their wallets till the enhanced security measures after 9/11 banned them from aircraft?
