I just remembered, CCR is Continuity of Care Record (I hope I am right this
time). I just talked with Mike Ginsburg who does not know the specifices of
what they will be doing for this, but fully expects that either CCR or
something else will need to be implemented as it is clear that sharing
information is a priority now.

Because of my work on the pedi project, I have been hearing about things
that may be helpful here and should soon have an opportunity to ask the
VistA-Office project manager if what I am about to tell you is correct. The
CCR or Core Clinical Record (I think) is virtually certain to be a feature
and should be a standard by the time VistA-Office is released. It is
specifically designed to be something that can be exported and sent
elsewhere, using predefined data elements that will need to be populated by
the contents of the medical record and will likely use XML fields for each
of those data elements as at least one way for moving the record from place
to place. I think I heard there are something in the neighborhood of 40+
elements and subelements (if that is the term) beyond that, or whatever they
are called, and is quite comprehensive, even including immunizations as well
as the usual history family history, social history, meds, problem list,
etc. I also fully expect that VistA from the VA will have the same thing
shortly after the standard is agreed upon and makes it through the balloting
process.

Thanks. I think I understand the issues. But, at least according to their
web site, the HL7 CDA was approved as an ANSI standard in 2000. It's true
that the CDA isn't inclusive of everything that needs to be in an EMR. It's
also obvious that whatever emerges as "the" EMR definition will include
what's in today's CDA. But perhaps I should have asked the question
differently. So I'll ask again.

Does anyone know if *any* export capability is something that the VistA
Office EHR project is working on?

But you're retitling of this thread raises a new question, at least for me.
What do you see my question having to do with GUI's?

Thanks again,
Bill
