I have used cache objects mapped to FileMan Globals and I must say that it really makes sense to me, and that it is fairly straightforward to then use tools that can see these objects as objects or SQL tools.
But the reason I am writing is I thought that ESIObjects was the open source solution to objects on GTM. I may be off base here though because I've never gotten this all working on one system. I don't know if ESIObjects have the same type of tools that Cache has for query either. I am speaking from ignorance but I thought that once the objects are built then you have to build an application to use them and that there is no tool like Cache SQL manager to run queries against the objects. Cache makes all of this quite easy and provides drivers for ODBC, JDBC and unixODBC all in the installation. It is then quite easy to connect to a database using the tool of your choice like Delphi, Access, or Excel or even the tool installed by default, Cache SQL Manager. But I would really like to know if I am seeing things the way they are or how I would like to think they are. How about it? Anyone using ESIObjects mapped to FileMan Globals? What tools are available to extract data once the objects are built and mapped? Are there drivers so that data can be accessed using tools available to most users?
