You're right - the original article is from September and has expired.  Owing 
to some sort of caching glitch, you can see it flash by at 
http://news.com.com/2100-7344_3-5363164.html (normally, you wouldn't see it at 
all).

The NY Times offers a copy of the article for purchase

But, I did find it at the Washington Post:

This used to say that IBM is going to make their speech recognition software 
open source.  Unfortunately, the link seems to have expired, but it did flash 
by for about a second before that expired page came up, so maybe one of you 
can see it.
