I quite agree that hardhats is a congenial, helpful group of folks. The world, though, in recent times has been through a "Decade of Denial (the 90')" in addressing issues and now a "Decade of Refusal" to work on issues. Hardhats went through the times of the "Gnomes of Darkness" to create VistA and they have stayed together (either inside or outside of the VA) and have an understanding how to get things done regardless of the impedimenta. With the dot comm era folks crawled into their pigeonholes and all of the hardhat expertise will be needed to bring together the concerted efforts that will be needed by healthcare to get the benefits needed by the US and the associated benfits needed worldwide. The education of folks in healthcare that will be needed to benefit from the capbilities of VistA is huge as revealed by the material on the AMA sites to which Nancy referred us. I am hoping that some one of the hardhats active in the actual installation and operation of the present VistA resource is collecting and incorporating into collaborative documentation all of the tips relating to the various platforms so that that documnet can be pointed to by others of us who are assembling the documntation of the VistA conceptual content and its relationship to the "health informatics standards" that various folks are referring to. This will all be needed and can be presented to those needing it by something as rewarding as the old MUG/MTA which was atrue forum for bringing together industry and users in a real collegial fashion that still exists in the hardhats. If we are to really achieve what we are speaking of daily, then we must strive to reactivate those forums and relate them to the entire education/communication process. So keep those thoughts in mind as we share bits and pieces. Nancy has some of our draft documents for those who may be intersted; hopefully World VistA will soon have an online archive of the working document set that is evolving.

<PAT-ON-BACK> This thread, and a lot else that is going on, reminds me what a nice bunch of people we really are. :-) ....That felt pretty good... Maybe more would be good.
I lurk in a couple other email groups, notably a couple at AAFP (AmericanAcademyofFamilyPractice). There is usually some sort of petty flame going there, and some very proud-of-themselves-folk holding forth. It is very rare to have anything like that erupt here.
My first take on the reason is with the professionalism and committment that has been a necessary part of DHCP/VistA from its very start. I am sorry that I cannot say the same of EMR projects within the medical specialty groups.
This is not to say that we are better than anyone else, or that VistA world domination is assured. Just that I'd rather read this list than most others I have seen.
