The iPod has a universal dock on the bottom (at least 2G-4G + mini do). You can connect different cables to it - my minis shipped with a USB and Firewire cable. Also the 4G ships with both (the latest generation is 4G, the one before is 3G, etc).
I have two and I do like more so than some of the others. I've tried a Creative and Rio - the interface isn't as smooth.
