Thurman:

Thank you. Can you tell us a little about yourself, and how you got into VistA. If it fits with our story, do you mind if we quote you by name?

Steve

VistA VA support is great. However, it isn't the only reason to go wit VistA. It is so far ahead or the curve, it will take a long time to fall behind and there will be a plenty people to pick up where VA leaves off. User modification is a strong component and not hard to learn. After all, I do it every day without formal training. To be accurate, I still use the basic FileMan without the CPRS, which I have installed and conversion/launch planned July 1, 2005. Considering no fancy glossy marketing hype and the bashing it has taken from EMR wannabe's VistA demonstrates extraordinary strength.

Others on this list can speak to the strength and devotion of the advocates of World VistA and open source. This is from a single user who has watched EMR/EHR growth for over 20 years. Physicians tend to their own computer programs is the BEST with little valid underpinning. I remember when my practice first went with hard drives in 1978, when all the physicians thought their magnetic card billing systems were the be all to end all – best there would ever be. Though success is by no means assured, market forces are not likely to ignore VistA.

Thanks,

thurman

[Hardhats-members] vista reluctance

Hi.

Have you ever heard reports that some people are reluctant to take up vista outside the VA, not because of cost or functionality, but because of concerns that it will wither because the VA isn't committed to it? I've heard that as a general theroy, but if you know of anyone specific, I'd like to know that, or maybe something that is discussed in the literature. We are going to write a story this weekend about vista use outside the VA. If there are a lot of reluctant buyers that needs to be reflected.

Regards, Steve
